Since our PS3 decided to quit reading discs, I've had to put Final Fantasy XIII aside for now. In its stead, I've switched over to the Wii to play Xenoblade which is... awesome. It took a couple of hours to get the gameplay really figured out but now that I'm off on my adventure, I can see playing this one for a while. Also: the music is incredible.

Meanwhile, playing Theatrhythm nightly and still occasionally grinding through FF III on Android. Fun all around.

Preparing for trip, class, maybe some WoW if I can fit in between all that. I'm very nearly to 85.

Penny Arcade taught me that I'm not the only person who thinks this about anime.

Wow Rev, way to take the insulting generalization out of a specific example.

That's like saying because an adult likes to watch say, Batman: The Animated Series, then they MUST like Dora the Explorer and be a pedophile.

So last night's evening of awesome (Money In The Bank, Breaking Bad premiere and Walking Dead gaming) has left this monday, the first where I have to actually go in to do a 9-5 shift, feel somewhat flat.

That being said, I've got my new General Brock 'Canadian Legends' action figure on my desk now. Nerrrrd.

Here's what's on tap for this week, gaming-wise:

The Walking Dead (PC) - I fired this up for about 5 minutes last night and then forced myself to stop because I actually needed to sleep and I knew I'd be sucked in for a good 2-3 hours, easily, if I let myself keep playing. That being said, I LOVE the look of the game and it's a very interesting take on how an adventure game works. I'm thinking I might turn the HUD to minimal in a bit once I get a handle on exactly how everything works (WASD AND mouse-clicking? Yeep!)

Has anyone played with the 360 controller? I might try it out later tonight to see how it works.

Theatrhythm (3DS) - I'm closing in on 20K Rhythmia points. I'm still a ways away from unlocking any extra characters though. I'm starting to work on some of the Ultimate difficulties for some songs but I'm also having a hard time getting higher than a B on a few of the songs right now. Grr...

Silent Hill: Downpour (360) - Depending how long TWD games take me to complete (probably not a long time), I'll see about sinking a bit more time into this. I like it but it hasn't really grabbed me quite yet.

Lollipop Chainsaw (360) - If I get bored of SH, I'll fire this up. I hear it's pretty short, so hopefully I can whip through it in a few days and be done so I can send it back.

And, if nothing else holds my attention, I'll fire up The Witcher again. Just when I'm getting into a rhythm with the game, I get this new job which basically kills my days off

Oh, I almost forgot the most exciting game of all:

Packing Up Crap (RL) - I've got a front room full of boxes right now. I just need to start filling them with all of my junk. Sigh.

Since apparently people only read things when they're in bold, here's my plans for the week:

Alien Shooter 2 Conscription (PC) - Still haven't fired this one up since I bought it, probably will do so this evening. Loved the original to death, warts and all.

Mount & Blade: Fire and Sword (PC) - Loved riding around on horses in the original, figured the new one might be worth checking out for $2.50 to see if shooting guns will be as awful as the other non-horse related activities in the original.

Burnout Paradise (PC) - Because it's fucking fun, that's why, and because I finally exhausted my will for Just Cause 2 and wanted something I could drive around and smash things in.

Warlock: Master of the Arcane (PC) - It's Civ 5 lite with fantasy monsters. How the hell do you go wrong with that? Oh right, you don't, if you're Warlock anyway, though many others have for no reason I understand. First true Master of Magic clone after only like 20 fucking years of fuck ups.

Some Kind of Fucking RPG (PC) - I still have an urge to play some kind of RPG, but I haven't had the will to commit that kind of time to a game, so I still haven't. I figure maybe one of the Zeboyd games, either the two I already have, or the Penny Arcade one later this week when I get paid.

Get Paid ($$$) - Financial aid disbursed, finally, to my student account, which means the balance should be direct deposited to my bank by the end of the week. I also sold two RPG books I didn't want to because I thought it would take longer to get paid, so that'll be another smaller payday sometime in the next few days.

Date Beautiful Woman (SXY) - There is a gorgeous girl in my Tues/Thurs classes, dark eyes, short dark hair, amazing legs, and a mean streak that warms the cockles of my icy and embittered heart. And best of all, I think she might actually be starting to like me. So here's to hoping she'll be the Beatrice to my Benedick.

Launch Hulks and Horrors (IGG) - By the end of today, I will have launched the campaign for Hulks and Horrors on IndieGoGo, which means it will finally be time to give me money for my game! I hope you all do so. I could always use more money, and my artists are cool guys who deserve to get paid.

I've checked out your Hulks & Horrors game before... I'm curious, to say the least.

If you want a quick scratch of that RPG itch, the PA game by Zeboyd was a hoot. It only took me about 2-3 days to burn through it but it was a pretty fun little ride and really got the 16-bit JRPG monkey off my back

My main hesitation on picking up PA is that I still haven't even finished Cthulhu or BoDVII, in part because that escalating combat modifier made it fucking impossible, and I never got around to trying it on the easier difficulty because I still feel a slight sense of shame in not even being able to finish a game on what's supposed to be "normal" difficulty.

There was only one fight I didn't actually win in PA Ep. 3 and that was the optional final boss of the coliseum. I could have probably beaten that fight if I mixed up my classes a bit too.

That's not to say I made it through without any deaths, but it was usually just a matter of mixing up my tactics the next attempt.

I've bought it (a few times now) but I think I'll wait for the mobile version to really get into it.

I agree that doesn't represent the entire genre of anime or that anyone that likes is automatically a pedophile. Like fans of any genre (excepting actual pedophilic literature), I assume the vast majority are not in it for some kind of dark criminal fetish.

All I'm saying is that sexualized depictions of girls that appear to be minors is a recurring theme in a lot of Japanese comics and cartoons, and I think that is creepy as fuck.

(I tried to find a display case of anime dvds to prove my point, but typing "anime rack" into Google got me a different sort of rack altogether, which didn't help to change my opinion.)

I'd hate to say it, it's a recurring theme in a lot of cartoons period. If you watch a lot of recent western animation with a comparable target age you see the same damn thing.

It's still creepy as fuck.

I just despise it when people make massive insulting generalizations about a genre that has elements I enjoy. It's like saying comics are for kids, and then me having to pull out something by Millar or that hackjob Moore.

I let my son play some of Silent Hill the other day. Horror games are for kids!

It was kind of funny, actually. Nothing really scary happened... it was just the first transformation from normality to Hellscape, but the whole time he would tentatively walk up steps, then ask if there were zombies, then he'd hand me the controller to open the door in case there were zombies. If the coast was clear, he'd take control again and wander around a bit until we came to a corner or closed door.

Good times... good times.

Two weeks out with the new babies and now I’m back at work, I’m missing them already. Bleh. They actually slept for nearly 5 hours straight last night, which was nice. I also just started at a new office since they moved my department, so my 40 minute commute went to over an hour. Oh well, the new digs are quite nice, I’ll live.

On the gaming front, well, there hasn’t been much time for that. I’ve been playing Mortal Kombat and ModNation Racers on the Vita. MK, is, of course, fantastic, it plays just like it’s big brother. ModNation is surprising me. I grabbed it for $10 during a GameStop sale next week, and despite the shitastic touch menu interface, the racing is pretty fun. Hell, certainly worth the $10 I paid.

I picked up a few games from the Steam Summer Sale, namely Alan Wake (with the AN expansion), Legend of Grimrock, Dear Esther, and Q.U.B.E. I’m really, really looking forward to digging into Grimrock and Q.U.B.E., if I get some time this week those will certainly see some time.

Lastly, I’m still working on Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, I’d like to get some time in with that too. I’m still in the second sequence, but I’ve been doing side stuff like a madman.

EDIT: And of course more Ratchet & Clank: All4One with my oldest, that's some great father/son co-op right there.

All this Borderlands talk in Gaming News made me pug it back in so I could work on my Siren character. The Siren and the Brick never clicked with me.

Edit: Hah! I managed to tear myself away since FEAR 3 was on sale. I'll play that.

I'm seriously considering that Fear pack on Steam. I haven't played any of the games, all of them for $10 is damn tempting........

I haven't played 3 (yet), but I found 1 to be the most fun with the best AI, and 2 was a more typical shooter.
