Camel, you're in Pittsburgh?

I don't play Cosmic Encounter, so that does you no good. Still, cool.

Just picked up Ticket to Ride and Small World. played 1 round of TtR with the family, it was fun and ridiculously simple to learn.

Along with Catan, these are the two games that got me into board gaming. Great picks! One of the best things about Small World is that if you ever start getting bored with it, all of the expansions are cheap and add new race and power combos. Once THAT gets boring, you can pick up the Tales and Legends expansion which adds little random events to each turn. It's a great game, although I don't think I've played it since last summer.

Ticket to Ride is still one of my favorites. I will never turn down a game of it.

Also, I lived in Pittsburgh for 20-something years (and miss it every day). I live in central VA nowadays.

Same here. I have the Marklin variant, which is in my opinion one of the best TTR variants - the map is really excellent (it's all within Germany) and balanced to all play styles, and the passenger mechanic that's unique to this version is my favorite "twist" out of all versions of TTR that I've played.

I still need to try the newer expansions, though, but none of them have really clicked with me while reading reviews enough to make be take a gamble on them.

If you end up liking Quarriors, I highly recommend the new expansion: Quarmageddon. The new dice and cards are all actually a lot of fun (I like them more than the ones in the first expansion, which I don't own but have played a few times). The real draw is the tray, though... the game comes ina nice big box with a bi-level tray that is full of grooves for storing your dice. It makes cleanup take a little longer but it's great for making setup a snap and for making sure no one lost any dice!

Also, let me know if you play New World - I've owned it since its initial release and mine's still in the shrink!
New World is a great twist on carcassone and I had to really change my play style from the original game which is basically to fk everyone over and mooch in on farms where i can and take it over. Really like new world.

Havent really had time to play the other ones i got, then ended up getting memoir 44 as a gift. That one is awesome.

Yes. I love Memoir a LOT. Took me years to finally give it a try, and now it's one of my favorite 2-player games.

Went into a brick and mortar shop for the first time in ages and spent about 45 minutes eyeing copies of Thunderstone, Dominion and Arkham Horror. I walked out empty handed but it was REALLY hard to do. Those shops manage to cast some sort of spell over me. :/

My love affair with Mage Knight is waining. It's a great game, but I think I'm beginning to realize it just isn't for me which is mildly disappointing. I may end up posting it over on BGG since I've sold things there before, but wanted to put it here first in-case.

Asking $60 plus shipping (maybe around $10) if anyone is interested.

I've been playing the crap out of Eclipse, a 4X-style euro/wargame hybrid. It is fantastic and plays faster than a 4X has any right to without sacrificing anything.

There's a brand new brick and mortar shop by me called the Wandering Dragon. Need to go check it out, but I'm hearing very good things about it from my co-workers.

Still need Eclipse - glad to see the reprint showing up everywhere, but am too poor to buy it. I hear nothing but excellent comments every time someone mentions it.

Picked up King of Tokyo's second printing. It's a great king of the hill kind of dice game, designed by Richard Garfield (The Magic: The Gathering guy). Lots of fun, easy to play.

Oh, shit, someone else who's played this. Awesome.

A friend of mine bought it first-run last year, and I've had two or three games with it. Lot of mechanics to learn at first, but they're all pretty intuitive once they're explained to you, and everything comes together really well (though we've had some balance issues with the missiles). And, just like a PC 4X game, my greatest success has came in turtling and researching until the endgame. We've just been playing with the humans so far while people learn the game, but I think we may start playing with the aliens next time around for a different feel.

I've, uh, played it 6 times in the last 3 weeks...

This is a common complaint on BGG, but we haven't seen it. It's too easy to see coming and prepare for, as long as you stay on top of it.

We've played w/ humans about 3 times (whenever there's a new player), and aliens about 3 times. Well worth it to try out (esp. with the rules for selecting them, which help balance first turn player order issues.

Tayaya's post about Lords of Waterdeep got me super interested in the game, but I couldn't help but think of how lame it was to use cubes instead of little guys for wizards, fighters, etc.

Then I found this thread over at BGG where a guy is making little DnDeeples for the game. While I normally don't feel the need to update the components of my games (with the exception of Agricola - I love all the little wooden veggies and animals), these guys absolutely pushed me over the edge to get the game.

Here's an idea of the scale. They are just about as big as the nail on my index finger, and fit right into the box insert:

So awesome.

Great. Now Lords of Waterdeep is on my radar. My list of games is getting out of hand.

Speaking of: anyone have any experience with Ghost Stories? I've heard great things and I live the artwork. The fact I can play solo is a huge bonus. Hoping to grab it early next week if the consensus is good.

Ghost Stories has amazing artwork and components, but...I dunno. It's HARD. We never even got close to seeing the boss come out (he is somewhere in the last ten cards of the deck). We always had a good time with the game, and the feeling it creates as you slowly get overrun with ghosts is pretty awesome, but it can definitely be a little disheartening to have ghosts brutally murder you over and over again.

The game is fun, but I ended up selling my copy once the iPad app for it came out. I usually play the app version solo, so I could see that being really fun with the actual game as well. My biggest problem was finding people who wanted to get the tar kicked out of the my ghosts rather than anything with the game itself.

EDIT: Here's what I said about it last summer!

Thanks for the impressions! I don't know why, but I'm typically drawn to games where the odds seem particularly overwhelming at times which sounds like GS would be perfect for me. I think if I had an iPad I'd be more liable to just go in that direction (is it wrong that the sole reason I'm interested in a tablet is for the board game apps?), but this might be a good one to bring to the group table every now and again anyhow. My group really enjoys games like Arkham, etc. where the odds tend to be stacked and the theme is strong to boot, so they may gravitate towards GS a bit better than most, maybe.

And at $35, it's not too terribly expensive even if it's a wash.
