The Dark Notes seem like the Treasure Maps from Dragon Quest 9. You get ones that have good things to obtain then you share them through street pass. But it is a way to keep things fresh or at least keep content coming.

I don't think there are any new modes hiding in there for us, save for maybe the Ultimate charts for each song (as only Basic and Expert are there by default as you know). |

I don't know about anyone here, but I would pay more than a dollar for some Black Mages stuff to be on here, maybe this for some field music and this for battle music. I think it would be fun to have!
Edit: Upon looking at the dlc list Matoya's Cave is already Field music... but I still like the Black Mages version. |

Looks fun, but I don't have a 3DS and I don't plan on getting one. |

I wanted this, but money was too tight for $40. Then I remembered a $25 gift card I had from xmas that I kept leaving on my desk.
I even bought the FFIV Final Battle theme from the store. Because it's awesome.

I just got a Dark Note tonight that has Zanarkand for field music and then J-E-N-O-V-A for battle music. It is by FAR my favorite Dark Note. Almost have 2 characters unlocked, also. Things are going well.

That's the second Dark Note that I've found. I haven't quite managed to complete JENOVA though. I've come ever so close...
I have 11, 12 & 13 left to do in the Series mode. I've been too busy to play as much as I'd like otherwise I probably would have the Series mode done by now.

I "beat" it last night. Meaning, I got enough rythymia to see the credits.
Still playing, of course! I've gotten 9ish dark notes, I'm working on S-ranking all of the Series mode games, and I'm close to unlocking a character with the orange shards!

And Spig, thanks for confirming that Dark Notes are indeed random. That was my 10th Dark Note. I'm currently working on unlocking all of the "Ultimate" versions of the songs, by getting A or S rank on the Expert versions in Challenge Mode. This is also opening the option to play the expert songs as a course in Series mode, so I'll do that next. Got more shards from bosses as well - there are at least 7 unlockable characters, but the only two I can ID from their silhouettes are Vivi and Yuna. Haven't actually unlocked any of them yet - that 8-shard req. is too much! |

Is Rinoa in the game? I was hoping to have an all couples party.

Got another song unlocked @ 15000 Rhythmia.... at least when you play on Expert and Ultimate you earn lots more Rhythmia, but it's still quite the grind.

Got the end credits, S-Ranked Dancing Mad on Expert. Decided to take a break for a bit.
They should really make Expert Campaign open right after Basic.

I broke down and picked it up. Really glad that I did. I finished the basic version of series mode and I've unlocked 6 or 7 dark notes. The jump from basic to expert was a bit jarring at first, but I'm doing OK with it. Once you get into a groove, the higher difficulty is so much fun. One thing that's driving me nuts is that I wish you could see the directional arrows a bit better, especially at the end of held notes. I can't tell you how many times I've missed an arrow because I just didn't see it at the end of a green line.
Good stuff though. Perfect for short bursts between other games or to kill a few minutes here and there.
