Fantasy Grounds

So, has anyone checked this out? I saw it at the convention I went to over the weekend, there was a guy running demos of it. It looked very impressive! I tracked and integrates basically everything, all of the rules, it handles things like cone attacks perfectly. You can look up all of the rules right from within the software, and also decide what rules you want to allow your players to be able to see. It even allows users to create custom modules and rules, so a user can actually port over an old defunct game system if they wanted.

I hadn't checked it out.

I'm too much of a gamer geek. My first thought was, "How much trouble will they get in for using screenshots that are from someone running Ravenloft?"

I've had a license for it for quite some time. It is a very well put together product. Putting modules together is pretty straight forward, and the community is great. It's a really good alternative if your group can't meet face to face, and even if they can, it can be a great use to the DM to keep things ordered and moving.

It looks impressive, but all that shiny art isn't included.

This is why I hate VTT software. It's far more work than just running an IRC game.

I'm pretty sure some of that art is included, and they make it really easy to import art. He showed me how you'd go about, say, importing a map that Wizards has posted online or sold to you. You just import it in, and then use their tool to outline a single square of the grid, and then it extrapolates the rest of the grid based on that.

Warhammer Roleplaying or other game system support? User modified game rules support that is real and not the bullcrap all the others seem to state? If so I am buying right now.

From what the guy told me everything is fully moddable as the rules are based on LUA. Not sure about official Warhammer support, I doubt it. They have D&D 3.5, Call of Cthulhu and I think Pathfinder. I believe users work on porting other systems to it, and I think they're interested in getting licenses to sell support for other systems.

EDIT: Look into the community.

EDIT: Ahh, looks like some users are working on Warhammer Fantasy.

Ok so this is killing me a bit. I spent about 5 hours working on it. I can't tell if its not 100% ready for primetime...or something about my install(did it like 4 times) but lots of errors even with the official plugins and rulesets. Argh. I liked what I saw but not sure about it right now. Darn.

Nah I moved to something else. Its not really that stable right now and seeing a good deal of the issues I think I will let it sit for a bit and mature.

Its still pretty cool though and looks to be awesome when they get some more time hammering away at some of the issues. Thanks Widget for the idea. I will for sure be using it in the future!

LMAO!

The BEST part of this software is the very start of the tutorial video where they say the name of the software, complete with a comical splice of the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon intro.

Don't worry its on my "keep checking daily list." I am also a bit perturbed by how much rules and such cost. If you factor into account what you are really getting the extra rules and such it seems freakishly expensive. Maybe thats just me. I don't follow this software much but it seems strangely expensive.

I think the guy at the con said that they try to keep the price of the rules in line with the price of the same rules in PDF form, so it would be a good deal in that sense. Also, I don't think each player needs access to said rules, I believe the game master can actually share them to the players during the game session.

We just had a ton of errors in the error window. All of us did for even the official rulesets. So that's what I meant by unstable. It may have just been luck of the draw.

Ah I didn't know they both wouldn't need the rules. I wonder how they get the rules to make the characters and skills and such? Do they have to be connected first to the person who owns the rules and maybe get a special connected license so random people can't just all connect to one person and download the lite rules.

Edit:
No shoot. No special license. Everyone needs to buy them. Sigh. Unless you want just the barest functioning only when the main person is online. That's alot of buying. I really like its look and potential but I don't think I can ask my players to all download and buy so much stuff.

I really do like a great deal of the package though.
