iOS Chrome
So, I'm on google Chrome on my iPhone right now. Anybody else checked it out?
I'm not sure if I'll stick with it. There's things better and worse than the default browser I've noticed so far. |

I played around with it a little bit, I don't think I'd want to switch to it permanently but I'll keep it installed so I can access my desktop bookmarks/tabs.

Even if it's better than mobile safari, you cant really switch the default browser...

Jailbroken, you can.

It's using the standard system internet browser API, so we'll be seeing none of the other benefits of Chrome.
If you jailbreak, you can change your default browser.

You may not be able to change the default not jail broken, but I can put the app where safari used to be.
Couple big things I've noticed. It has a search function. It actually keeps content loaded up on different tabs and loads up content in the background on a new tab. |

Another positive is that the address bar doesn't scroll off the screen. I thought that was a partial negative because you lose screen real estate, but they don't have any bar at the bottom, so it seems like a wash.
Negatives: As far as I can tell, you need to two clicks to get to bookmarks. Also, as far as I can tell, you can exit out of bookmarks without triggering a page reload. I'm hoping that I'm just missing something on one or both of these. |

I am loving Chrome on iOS. Much cleaner interface. UNLIMITED tabs. I don't think I can stress that enough. In Safari I would hit my limit, and Safari just loads the new page over an older one, replacing something I might have wanted to read. Annoying.
The sideswipe interface to switch between sequential tabs is somewhat slow, but then you can also tap the Tabs button and flip through all of the tabs very quickly, which makes me very happy. I like the single address/search bar, and of course, Google syncing all of my open tabs, bookmarks, passwords, etc. between devices is the main reason I would want this, ever. Overall, very happy with Chrome Just waiting for the Browser Changer (Cydia plugin) to update with support for it.

Put your finger on the margins of the left or right side of the page, and hold it there a second. Then swipe. The reason for the delay is so you still have the ability to scroll left/right in a page. You can only go back/forward one tab at a time using this method. Still, neat if you only have a couple things open. But it doesn't wrap around, so if you get to the first tab and want to go to the last one, you're better off just hitting the Tabs button and quickly paging through them.

OK, I can get it to work now... sometimes.
I think I'll stick with the tab button like you.

Got Chrome installed, Browser Changer with Chrome now as Default, and have this Plugin installed: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...lijcgfpikmndhd
Browsing the Internet from my iPhone is now pretty damn cool now. Being able to sync my Computers tab is really awesome when I'm not at my computer.

Oh man. On iPad is where Chrome really comes into its own. The tabs are visible at all times and there is a "new tab" blob on the right that looks just like the desktop version of Chrome.
And when you use the swipe, you can actually spin through all the tabs in a sideswipe... more like a slider that scrolls left to right. It's beautiful. Also, I was wrong about needing to hold the margin for a second to make the sideswipe work. Just swipe in from outside the left or right edge of the screen and it seems to work every time (that's true on the phone version too).

I like the features, etc., but it crashes like crazy on my new iPad. Even if I just give it a single page to load, anything with dynamically loading comments or other scripted content seems to give it fits. I'll stick with Safari for now and see if things improve after an update or two (much as they did with the desktop version of Chrome).

I have been told that the best javascript running libraries in iOS are reserved for Safari only, which sucks.
