Because I can't seem to get sound through Flash videos these days (help!), I can't tell if the Mage Knight game is going to be a collectible game in the way that the classic game was and HeroClix Online is. I really like the strategic aspect of both HeroClix and Mage Knight, but I have no interest in dropping tons of money on a game to buy characters, especially if it's in the form of random boosters.

Even without sound though, I'm really tempted by Space Command.

Seriously, if anyone know why I can't get sound out of Flash, it'd be super awesome if you told me how to fix it.

I'm weighing whether or not I want to pull the trigger on Dead State. It's a zombie survival RPG focused on managing a community of suriviors. It has turn-based Fallout-style combat and a branching storyline based on the decisions you make and how you treat your fellow survivors. A little over 2 days to go and they're getting close to their third stretch goal.

I'm also considering this pixel-based side-scrolling rogue-like, The Crystal Catacombs.

It's not a video game, but the creator of the Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal webcomic is making an adventure book like he used to play as a kid: Trial of the Clones. I never played the books he talks about, but they sound interesting.

I just pulled the trigger on Dead State. Let's hope it's a headshot.

Dead State has been in "development" for like 6 years. It's vaporware and will never be made.

OK i admit to exaggerating. But it was supposed to be at E3 this year, last year and 2010.

We talked a bit about it in Immortal Machines podcasts last year.

Did we? I don't remember talking about Dead State - I do remember talking about Project Zomboid, the guys who had their laptops stolen and then exploded on Twitter.

I looked up some interviews and there's some acknowledgment that it's been in development a long time, but that it's largely because they lacked the funding to hire the number of people necessary to work full-time and get content created. I imagine this Kickstarter will help change that.

Still, taking another look at the page made me notice that they're not planning a release until the end of 2013, and I can easily see it slipping further than that. Not sure I want to wait that long.

It was during the cast where we spoke about upcoming PC games we were excited for. I believe it was you Eric who sent out a link to (maybe giantbomb) a list that rounded up games in development. I'll see if i can dig around for it.

Cool. My memory is crap sometimes.

I'm a Dead State backer as well, though I agree it might be a long wait. But what the hell, the idea seems good and by the time it's done it'll be like I got a free game.

True. Despite my appreciation for Kickstarter, I'm actually a pretty stingy backer. I've only backed 3 video game projects so far. This new info pushed me into pulling my pledge. The campaign is an unverified success, so if it actually does release and is good I can always grab it then.

It may well be dead by now. I remember having all kinds of trouble with it the last time I tried to log in.

Looks like today was Kickstart My Game Console

OUYA: A New Kind of Video Game Console

Figure this might get it's own thread after a while. I don't like creating them cause then it's news and you made a thread for nothing.

I'd totally be in for that if it wasn't $20 for a download of a 40 minute movie. Insanity. Not to start up the whole charity debate again, but I can't imagine they will charge anywhere near that much to watch it when it's released, so I'm definitely not dumping it up front.

Kickstarter is a patronage system. If you want to be part of helping a piece of art get made, this is your chance to know you contributed to that up front and that without your help it might not have happened. As a bonus, you get <whatever reward is associated with your contribution level>, but the merit of the system is that you get to help dictate with your dollars what gets created and what doesn't, not just consume it or pass on it after the fact.

$20 for a digital copy of the film isn't "insanity" - you're not buying a product, so whether you're getting a "good deal" or not is really irrelevant to the concept. If you want your dollars to support the project, give them. If you don't, don't.

No, you're not buying a product. When I do it, I am. I see it as a pre-order, you see it as patronage. Both are valid views. Mine makes paying into this stupid.
