Space Alert takes a couple of tries to really learn the flow of, but it's one of the best chaotic gaming experiences you can have, with the right group. If you end up liking Quarriors, I highly recommend the new expansion: Quarmageddon. The new dice and cards are all actually a lot of fun (I like them more than the ones in the first expansion, which I don't own but have played a few times). The real draw is the tray, though... the game comes ina nice big box with a bi-level tray that is full of grooves for storing your dice. It makes cleanup take a little longer but it's great for making setup a snap and for making sure no one lost any dice! Also, let me know if you play New World - I've owned it since its initial release and mine's still in the shrink! |

Had some games posted for sale, but think I might try to make a BGG auction out of them since I never have before. I'll post a link later if anyone is interested in checking it out.
Also, played Ankh-Morpork again last night. What a great game. I am reading the Discworld series right now (only on book 3, after re-reading the first two), and this game makes me want to know who all these characters are (great job by the game's artists). My wife inadvertently helped me win the game last night, as she was trying to control a certain number of areas while I was just hoping to cause trouble all over the map. She ended up playing some cards that loaded the board up with trolls and demons, causing mass chaos (and trouble!) and handing me the game. I really want to give Race for the Galaxy a go later today. Looking forward to trying to decipher all the symbols on the cards! Last edited by Camel; 06-17-2012 at 09:21 AM. |

I'm not sure I want to *buy* Quarriors, but man I want to give playing it a shot.

I just purchased Cosmic Encounter. I've heard nothing but good things and really looking forward to playing it it with the group on Sunday. We'll also be playing Munchkin Quest (having never played Munchkin) which I'm anxious to try out. Read through the rules and it sounds like a ridiculously good time.
There's a chance we'll get in a game of Fortune and Glory as well unless we all love Cosmic (I've heard most games are around an hour or so) and delve into a second round.

I actually would. Everything I've heard first-hand and many of the reviews on Board Game Geek have been near-fanatic. So I'm curious if you don't care for it, why you don't.
Unless you're just cranky, but I'd sympathize with that.

It was... not well received. It was just too chaotic and obtuse for most of the guys. It quickly generated a lot of scorn and the game fell apart before it really got going. For my part, I tried to keep an open mind more than most. It wasn't really setting me on fire either, though. That said, I know lots of people love it. Hopefully you and your group will too!

I can definitely see how that might be the case as it absolutely looks hectic. My group seems to love games where you have to play nice one minute and stab someone else in the back the next (Battlestar has gotten an obscene amount of play) and I think both the quickness and the ability to forge alliances and then betray them is what has me most keen to see how well it fits with us.
All told, we're a pretty laid back group so the chaos may end up being off-putting but I have a feeling since most games spiral into an abyss of one-upsmanship and swearing (usually at me), this may be right up our alley. Or table. I'll report back Sunday with a thumbs up or down. Got it for $40 shipped so even if it's the worst thing ever, I've spent more than that on other terrible things.

Sedition looked pretty middle-of-the-road to me: interesting world and art/pieces with gameplay that didn't much speak to me. Honestly, I buy so few games that can't be played either solo or co-op (like, maybe one a year or ever-other) that a game requiring 2+ has to be exceptional looking/sounding for me to want to jump on it.
If reviews are outstanding I might take a stronger look at it in the future. One thing I love about BGG is the variants a lot of people come up with, many of which help make some games a strong solo experience even if it wasn't originally intended that way. Maybe that'll happen here too and I'll grab it down the line. My last Kickstarter buy was Zombicide. I'm typically not a huge zombie fan (despite owning Zombies!!! and having played some Last Night on Earth) but all of the different references appealed and it being solo didn't hurt. Had a bit of a dungeon crawling feel with a zombie coat which I'm just fine with and looking forward to giving it a spin in a few months. Other than that, haven't had much Kickstarter experience.

If anyone wants to try a wacky-ass card game, they should get EPIC SPELL WARS OF THE BATTLE WIZARDS: DUEL AT MOUNT SKULLZFYRE.
Using three types of cards (Source, Quality, and Delivery) you mix and match construct ball-rattling magic to crush your foes. First to win two matches wins. Some complete spells: Midnight Merlin's Ballsy Testikill Magma-gog's Impatient Gorenado Sir Lootzor's Mirror-balled Chicken. Costs less than forty bucks, utter chaotic fun with a group of people.

It is soooo dependent on having the right group to play it, though. Almost everyone in my group hates it because it has too much direct conflict. I refuse to sell it (although my resolve is cracking somewhat in this area), but it's only made it to the table twice in the last year. ![]() Got to play a bunch of Summoner Wars during a beach trip this last week. What a great game. Every faction feels significantly different and has a lot of character. I started off with the Master Set that comes with 6 different factions, but I'd still say to go for it even if you get one of the earlier games that only comes with 2. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an amazing 2-player game. |

Cosmic Encounter update.
Played 2 games of it today before venturing off into something else, but the group loved it. One friend won both games but it was absolutely fantastic. The first game I got dealt Human and ended up with my flare card in my hand so I caused havoc pretty early on but some bad Destiny draws and Encounter cards quickly turned the tide. My brother was playing Mirror that game and almost pulled-out a double-victory but we fell (though the name of who we lost to escapes me - the alien whose ships could as 4 for every 1). The second game, the same guy who won the first game got the Void and he just drop-kicked us since the Void's power allowed him to remove ships from the game rather than wend it to the Warp. Parasite and Will were also in play (Parasite can be an ally without being invited, Will can draw a Destiny card but then choose whom to attack) and one other who I'm forgetting. But that game went fast ![]() We didn't play with the Technology cards since we were just learning but already the group wants to play it again. Such a fast-paced and ever-changing game. I love how the powers dictate how the flow works and how your strategy needs to shift depending. Really looking forward to more time with it.
