Huh. I wasn't expecting something quite so similar to Portal in concept, but I'm not going to complain about more first-person puzzle games. It's a genre I would like to see more of.

The game has just dropped on Steam.

I'm downloading it now (pre-ordered with the season pass) and I'll provide impressions very shortly.

So far it feels like Portal for kids, in the best possible way. I like it so far. This needs to be sold as a retail game imo.

That's a really good way of describing it in that it's set up similar where you have an omnipresent character guiding you through puzzles. I haven't gotten terribly far into the story, but yeah, so far it does feel like a more colorful and less sinister Portal game.

Hopefully it will sell well and they can afford a bigger marketing budget for their next game.

I love looking at the pictures when you switch dimensions. Some of them are a hoot.

I'm not terribly far right now, but I can already see how some of the later puzzles will be rather taxing on the ol' noggin.

Oh yeah, that's my favorite part! I've taken so many screenshots just of the pictures on the wall.

I like this guy:

I agree, those pictures are great and give more depth to the game.

I'm just digging deeper into the heavy dimension and have already had a couple of puzzles stump me for a while, but nothing I couldn't figure out sooner or later.

It was John de Lancie being the main voice actor that sold me on this.

I'm enjoying it, too.

I hadn't looked it up to see if it actually was him, but I figured it was. He's like a slightly more befuddled and nice GLADoS.

I have made it to the second set of chambers, as it were (I turned on the first reactor). It's quite interesting...

I've read that this game came so close to being amazing, but has a few shortfalls that prevent it from reaching that level. What do you guys think about this and do you think it's something that they would be able to fix with patches?

I'm not sure what the shortfalls are that they're talking about. I've started fiddling around with the third type of dimensional shift and it's adding a whole new wrinkle to how things work.

The only real gripe, if you can call it that, that I've read is that the opportunities to just go nuts with all 4 types of dimensional shifts are limited to a handful of spots. Supposedly the DLC will add more of that.

I'm loving the game though. It's not quite on par with Portal as far as the dialogue (though Jon deLancie does a great job on the narration) but the puzzles are fiendish in all the right ways.

I agree. The puzzles are great and I swear I spent almost two days staring at the first generator trying to figure out how to get it to work properly till I finally got the rythym going.

The narration is fantastic and really immerses you in the story as you travel through the house and look at the paintings and so on.

Parts of the third dimension really screwed me up trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. Going to be crazy once I hit the 4th dimension.

EDIT: Btw, I love the soundtrack.

My only problem is that I find the switching to be tricky with the layout now that I have the third dimension. I might need to reassign the keys or something. I wonder how it would work with the 360 pad.
