I bought my sister a 500 usd Lenovo Ideapad, it beats the Macbook Air in everything but portability and boot speed. Cheap laptops are way better than they used to be 5 years ago. Windows is also far less clunky now.

If you had said HP or Dell, you would be correct.

Also, contrary to expectations, Apple has shown faith in the desktop market, unlike Microsoft. As soon as MS discontinues Windows 7, the only other alternative to Macs would be Linux/BSD.

I just picked up a new Macbook Pro, would have liked to get the 500gb storage but man flash storage is expensive. Neve had a Mac before, I am liking it so far but its taking me a while to get use to no backspace button and this command button.

By backspace button, do you mean a reverse deleting button like the one next to home, end, pgup, pgdn, etc?

If so... fn+delete does that for you.

Oh, you just mean hitting delete to go back? Does that not work? Guess I never noticed. Then again, I almost always only do that inadvertently anyway.

I didn't know how to describe it. I'm sorry. Is there an obvious term I'm missing?

It may be pretty and engineered superbly, but the fact of the matter is that its not serviceable in any way shape or form, god forbid that screen cracks cause you are gonna need to get a whole new display assembly as its glued to the housing. Want to upgrade your ram? too bad your stuck with what you got. Battery died? thats ok just throw the whole damn thing out and buy a new one. What kind of moron makes a $2,000+ laptop where the part MOST LIKELY TO FAIL after a couple of years is NON-REPLACEABLE.

You can talk all you want about how they are pushing technology, I personally think its pushing things in the wrong direction. The only thing I like about Apple is how they have lit a fire under the ass of their display OEMS. For instance, I got a Korean knockoff with an apple cinema display panel(made by LG) for $400

a 27" 2560x1440 IPS LED backlit panel for $400? Fuck yea, that same display with an apple logo? $999. Fuck off.

It's not backspace. It's the opposite of backspace.

It's the delete key. Only on a MacBook the backspace key is labeled "delete" and there is no delete key as we know it so i had to describe the functionality.

You guys are cute thinking you're all smarter than me though.

I just noticed when I have the pointer on a webpage I can place two fingers on the trackpad and swipe left and right to go to the previous page. Thought that was kind of cool.

I guess you're good for a replacement until Applecare runs out at least...

Also, I just tried it and backspace (delete) DOES go back in my web browser. What browser are you using?

That is funny. While I don't agree with the action, it is funny that it works so well. So Apple users are suckers, who could have guessed!

Sure some people ( photographers and their ilk) will benefit from ultra high dpi screens, but for the average Joe, there is a reason that world mostly stopped at 1080p. ( actually stepped back to, 1920x1280 was the norm.)
So basically this... you didn't read anything about the review. You know, the entire part about how it's essentially impossible to do this on a Windows laptop and how the GPUs were never designed for this resolution?

Thanks.

Making computers that don't suck, in a market full of total garbage, is not pushing in the wrong direction. The sales responses are indicative of one thing: that people are happy to pay for quality.

Regaring the LED panel, the one with the Apple logo has pretty much the best integrated speakers in a monitor, built in camera, dimming detection, AND AN ENTIRE THUNDERBOLT HUB INSIDE OF IT. These are not cheap, the 27" Cinema Display is essentially an iMac without a CPU and Hard Disk with all of the logic built in to support high end peripherals (which, to be fair, the only computers shipping Thunderbolt en masse right now are Macs - but that's the point, tight seamless integration across products) to make it convenient for bleeding edge laptops which are going thin and light while ditching ports.

They aren't charging Apple users more, they are showing them higher end hotels by default because statistically that is what they noticed Apple users pay for higher end service. You sound like sour grapes.

On the first part: And so many more are willing to NOT pay Apple, and go to Wal-mart and buy the machine that works for them. What does that say?

And you totally missed my point on the second part. And I sound like sour grapes? That is funny.

I'm not the one calling people "suckers" because their demographic buys higher end hotel rooms. There's nothing sucker about that, it's a lifestyle choice.

Sounds like a website serving its customers to me. Of course, there might be Mac users who want to save a few bucks, or Windows users who don't want to get flea bites, but why not try to save a few clicks?
