Damn, now I am tempted to do the same. The previews and info looking that good on the S3? And what is the time frame for the release and VZ deadline?

Any reason why either of you decided not to just buy a phone outright, as that appears to be another way around the unlimited data.

Apparently the Tmobile Note is on the way in July. It's jack up the Note 2 is rumored for like October. :/

The Note 2 does look great, but damn, the way the Nexus tablet is looking, I think I would almost rather go that way. Of course, all of these devices are unproven, which to me is a problem in and of itself.

You have to preordered or upgrade by the 28th or pay full price but these phones are getting to be 600-700 and that is spendy. The ship date of the S3 is July 11. With nearing ten million pre orders the specs are great and rom development should be vast.

Rather than pay full price I'd rather use my upgrade now. But my next phone will be purchased at full price to keep unlimited later.

I guess VZ and ATT buyers will not get the 50gb dropbox accounts. I am really tempted. My phone the last few days has been bugging the heck out of me.

Edit: I bought a 32gb blue just under the wire. I really wanted to beat the plan switch over and frankly this phone seems like an excellent choice.

Is Ice Cream Sandwich a huge improvement over Gingerbread? Can anyone give me a basic summary of what the differences are?

Basic summary? Nope. But yeah I'd say huge different.

I'm going to take the rom off my phone and put Tmobiles version of ICS off. I should be able to control bloatware though since it's rooted.

I did a little research online, and it appears that the biggest additions in ICS are things that support newer hardware, such as 1080p cameras, etc. Lots of UI changes as well, but I can live without those, and the hardware stuff obviously won't be useful if the phone I buy doesn't have those features.

I'm weighing the LG Optimus Elite versus the HTC One on Virgin. The Elite is $80 cheaper and has good reviews. They just got the One so it doesn't have reviews on Virgin's site. I'll have to check elsewhere. I'd like to buy one today, if possible, since the Elite is on sale.

Ok here one big change I know. You can use the Chrome broswer on ICS. And it's one of the best. True that new Firefox is killing it but syncing with my home browser was useful.

ICS is the first professional quality Android release. The UI is improved drastically, speed and stability are light years ahead of 2.x, it is better in every way.

Do not waste your time with 2.x devices. Just don't. And don't support companies that continue to release out-dated software on new hardware.

Yeah, I saw the thing about Chrome. I don't use Chrome at home though, so that's not a big deal to me. I can see the appeal for others though.

I don't think that the Elite is exactly new hardware, but I get what you're saying. Having ICS would be nice. I need to look up some reviews for the HTC One and see what the thought is overall. Money is a big concern right now, so even $80 makes a difference. Still, if the One has good reviews then it might be worth the extra money for slightly better hardware and an upgraded OS.

Edit - It's actually the HTC One V, if that makes any difference.

HTC One series are beasts. Not sure about the low end, but the high end is nice.

Basically, my recommendation is down to how much you want to pay per month.

If you are going with a traditional carrier, buy a Galaxy Nexus from Google Play. It's only $350 right now, which is a steal for what is the best phone on the market right now. It's also already got Jelly Bean available.

If you want to go prepaid, and save on your monthly bill as well as $50 against the cost of the Nexus, buy the Evo V on Virgin Mobile. It's $300, and you'll pay about half per month what you would on any other carrier.

I personally would not willingly spend money on any devices without at least Ice Cream Sandwich at this stage.
