Day Z- Mod for ARMA 2 Zombie Survival on a 15 Mile island
Don't know if any of you are playing this mod or not.
http://www.dayzmod.com/ Basically its The Walking Dead but in ARMA 2. PVP, PVE, teamwork are the name of the game. You will find yourself with a gun with 3 bullets a can of beans and then suddenly you have 3 guys in front of you all trying to figure out if you are friendly or not in the middle of deciding a zombie pops up and teamwork takes hold. I have found the community to be incredibly helpful and when bandits(PVP players) strike, entire teams of friendlies will gather and flush them out. Help and Notes: Installation- Follow the directions and install Battleeye when it asks. Also make sure to run each game individual once before starting the mod. The games need to initialize before it works. If you don't have weapons and see no zombies it may be that you forgot to start both games at least once. It can also just be a swamped server. Mod manager Not Needing but is amazing)Six-Updater(http://www.six-updater.net/) can help with handling mods in ARMA. It can launch with special orders like not having splash screens and loading screens. It handles ARMA as a profile so just like windows you can log into it and have profiles for this mod, profiles for normal ARMA, and profiles for other mods. It keeps them separate, it updates them, and it keeps you from running into issues. Death/Living: Dying will happen. Allot. It can be frustrating but it does happen. Guns bring zombies. Larger and louder guns bring even more. Watch out. Sneak up to cities and towns. Don't sprint in. Hunger: Food and drink count down even when you are not in the game Saving: Save in a safe location such as- In bushes laying down Under destroyed vehicles In nookes and crannies beside small buildings Logging in: This can be a long process as its super popular. Best to plan to do something while you wait. Co-op/Teamwork: Just because someone says they are friendly it doesn't mean anything. Watch out. Keep an eye out at first. That's the greatness of this as tension is high. But you can end up becoming very popular if you help others, bandage them, give them blood packs and so forth Looting: Anything with an open door, deerstands, and so forth can all be looted. Zombies: Zombies move fast so you have to make sure to keep an eye out at all times as they 'sleep' at times and can be right behind a building you are in. Day/night transition: Physical location dictates the tie of day. If its night where the server is physically located it will be night in the game. Running: You can run for an incredible amount of time which is nice. But when you stop you are going to have no control over your shots. So be careful. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=472665

Jezuz spent 7 hours basically running from zombies. Found a pair of Binoculars! And it felt like a birthday. The delicate balance between insanely hard and celebration is insane in this game. I can't describe the felling of satisfaction just by getting past 2 zombies and getting some binoculars and finding 6 bullets like they were gold.

This mod looks epic. I've got ARMA 2, but 20$ for Operation Arrowhead is a bit steep.

Yes sir. The game is balanced for speedy zombies. It would not work with slow ones due to the accuracy of the weapons and how the game runs and handles the large land mass. They have tried a couple different ways but the speedy zombies worked best.
Also looks like the guy may make this into a full title in a couple years. The popularity in the last couple weeks has caused Bohemia to take notice.

So played another 5 hours last night. Spawned near another group. After a tense 15 minute standoff where we all had to decide who was trustworthy and who wasn't we decided to gather together. Found a small farm and discussed going in. Decided against it. We found a watertower nearby climbed to the top and found out that 3 bandits(PVP players) were set up in the village. We spent about 3 minutes scoping them in and in one fell swoop destroyed all 3 in a 3 shots. We looted them and celebrated our find. A couple guns and some bullets, a couple flares, and bandages.
We healed up. One of the players was outside and accidentally fired off a shot while switching weapons in the inventory. The zombies came. We fought them off. One of our players ran out of bullets and sacrificed himself running through the legions of zombies and lead them off to the west. We went to the east. Dawn broke. We found a ruined castle and ran inside. There was our other player, the guy who was going to sacrifice himself. By crossing a river and then running back through town he lost the zombies and hightailed it to the castle. We all signed off, hidden in nooks and crannies of the castle hoping we would not be killed while we slept. Amazing.

If you guys get this I suggest you use Six-Updater to add the modd to Arma 2. It is an auto downloading mod manager that takes care of absolutely everything for you. You don't even have to search for the mod. Just pick it from the list and hit install.

Just know, that if we have a CoG group... this isn't a democracy. It's a Ricktatorship!

But don't you randomly spawn in a new place at every new character? I'd imagine in a 15sq km level that even just finding each other would be a difficult task.

From what I read, you randomly spawn in a designated spawning area, not at a completely random spot on the map. I could be wrong, but from my understanding, everyone should spawn in pretty close.

I heard about this the other day. It seems right up my alley, almost like a small scale S.T.A.L.K.E.R. MMO.

Ya there are spawn points it can be a bitch to find others. The map is a special item you can get to make it easier. I just got done with a 6 hour jaunt. Took down a group of bandits right quick then 5 of us split off and tried to repair a helicopter. We ALMOST had everything but got slaughtered when we were fighting over items with another couple gamers and zombies were attracted to us. FUCK.
