Battlefield 1943

Release date: July 9, 2009. Maybe.

From Joystiq:
Quote:
Hey, remember when we gave away all those codes of Battlefield 1943 just after E3 and there was a bit of confusion surrounding when you could use them -- er, ya know, actually play the game? Don't worry, we were confused too, but according to June's official EA Newsletter, the long awaited online shooter from DICE will be hitting your digital store shelves on July 9th.

Interestingly, the game description no longer lists a PC version, making the delayed iteration of Battlefield 1943 that much less of a possibility -- a strange one at that, considering the franchise's PC roots. Either way, those of you that snagged codes for the game back in early June should start getting ready for battle by talking to our friends in the JPAG and setting up a game night. Talk about two tastes that taste great together.

Update: DICE producer Gordon Van Dyke said today on EA's UK forums that "We are close to confirming our dates (Xbox 360 date & PS3 date), but still need to settle a few minor things." Looks as though the release date listed in the newsletter is still unconfirmed, unfortunately. Sorry, folks -- and thanks to everyone who sent this in!
July 9 would put it just 10 days away.

I'm not seeing a whole lot of news on this game. It sort of came out of nowhere. And no PC version? I was certain there was. I sure as hell am not buying anything besides a PC BF game. So no PC version, no buy.

Ah, I should have put this in General Gaming, then. Any mods want to move this thread?

Whatever your position, you get to enjoy the thrill of a fully featured online shooter with the unique Battlefield sandbox experience. Battlefield 1943 will be available on Xbox LIVE® Arcade, PlayStation® Network for download this summer and on PC later this fall. For only $14.99 or 1200 MS points, you get the complete, action packed Battlefield gameplay right at your fingertips for quick and easy access.
Though the Joystiq post suggests that EA isn't listing the PC version, it is still listed on the game's website.

So this is basically a slim version of BF 1942 with a modern game engine? EA is confusing me with all of these BF games. I think they are really starting to suck the life out of the franchise. I was hoping for a true sequel to BF 1942. Perhaps BF 1943 will be all about DLC. Problem with that is, with each DLC the community gets split more and more as witnessed with BF 1942 and BF 2. And I am already sick of Wake Island, the map that was the demo for BF 1942 and kept showing up in every BF game since.

And with the game coming out on consoles first, those with a PC and a console may be more inclined to get the console version since they can play that first. The PC version has already been left in the dust. I hope BF 3 is a true BF sequel and launches PC only, or multi platform at the same time.

They're using the Bad Company engine so that might have something to do with it.

Be glad when they finally push this one out the door, hopefully we'll get more news about the currently under development BF3.

After looking at the game, I'd rather just jump back into Warhawk. Which actually sounds like a good idea.........

I should try to get back into Warhawk but I never got into much after the beta. I bought the retail game but none of the expansions. I may pick up the bundle if Battlefield 1943 does not do it for me.

I have a code for the PS3 version, so I'll be downloading it, just not sure if/when I'll actually play it.

I got it for the 360 this morning and played the tutorial. After I inverted the sticks for the plane I was ok with everything control wise. Gonna dive into this tonight.

Is it listed on the marketplace now? I checked this morning to download so i could play it when i got home from work but it wasn't listed in New Arcade games.

EDIT - will be getting on 360 - add me to your friends list and i'm good to play anytime.

I searched for 'Battlefield' on the Live website and it popped right up and let me buy it remotely. Now I just have to download it at home.
