No Sound from the Internet
Can anyone help me with this? All of a sudden yesterday I stopped getting sound from any websites. I tried both Chrome and IE, and nothing, whether it's from Pandora, Amazon Streaming, or embedded You Tube videos. The sound works fine on the rest of the machine; I can play movies, music, and games fine.
Just no sound on the internet. Very odd. |

Are you on Windows 7? Check your application volume settings. Click the volume icon in the system tray and click Mixer, and see if your browser has been muted.
Edit: Probably won't be that, after checking those settings out. Last edited by GigaFuzz; 06-13-2012 at 05:27 PM. |

Vista. Yeah, nothing in the mixer. Weirdly, Chrome doesn't even show up in the mixer, though, for instance, Steam does.

Yeah, it's definitely going to be the title of my memoir as a participant in many flame wars in the early life of the internet.
As for my problem, it still exists. Flash seems to be the most likely culprit, but I tried to do a clean uninstall/reinstall of an older version and it's still around. No sound from You Tube videos. Nothing from Pandora. No sound from Amazon Prime video, but Netflix streaming works fine. |

A *** in the machine.

Netflix uses Silverlight instead of Flash, so that is why it is still working.

Switch YouTube to HTML5. If that fixes it then Flash is almost definitely to blame.

Bump. So, I went on vacation and hoped it'd all be fixed when I got back. It's not really fixed, but switching You Tube to HTML 5 seems to have fixed that end of the issue. But other Flash videos, like the documentary videos on the Double Fine site or PATV shows still don't work. I'm at a loss.

Man, I had tried just about everything I could think of to fix this with no luck. I uninstalled and reinstalled Flash a bunch of times and checked different settings all over the place. I just fixed it right now by going into the Chrome plugin settings, disabling Flash, and then reenabling it. And that worked. Computers are super annoying.
