[E3 '12] Nintendo Recap

The show begins with the legend Shigeryu Miyamoto on stage.

- First game shown is Pikmin 3. A new 'hard' type Pikmin is shown. Can be played with the WiiU Tablet alone or withWiiMote & Nunchuk. Or possibly all together too.

- Nintendo spells out the features of the Wii U pad - which you can now have 2 on one system. Features on the pad include motion control, an accelerometer, camera, mic, rumble, speakers, headphone jack.

- Social centers around MiiVerse, which will also eventually available from browsers too.

- New Super Mario Bros U announced. Up to 4 players on screen, with one on the WiiU Pad aiding their runs.

- Third party games like Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Mass Effect 3, Darksiders 2, Tank Tank Tank, Tekken Tag 2, Trine 2 Directors Cut, Ninja Gaiden 3 Razors Edge and Aliens Colonial Marines.

- 3DS news. New SMB 2, Paper Mario 2 and Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon all coming this holiday season. Nintendo will also be holding a separate webcast show focused on the 3DS tomorrow.

- Back to the WiiU with Lego City Undercover, which looks like GTA Lego basically. Looks great. Will also be on 3DS.

- Ubisoft showed off a little bit of ZomniU, a zombie FPS. You use the Pad to scan the environment, hack doors, use sonar, snipe and more.

- NintendoLand. A theme park game featuring attractions based on Nintendo properties, such as Zelda Battle Quest and Luigi's Ghost Mansion. Looks like a lot of fun.

And that's the end of the presentation. A nice selection of games were shown, but they needed something with more of a punch to end the presentation. Since they weren't going to announce a price or date, they needed a big impactful game to close with, and I don't think that was NintendoLand. Still a good presentation.

Lego City Undercover looks amazing. I would be into that like hotcakes.

ZombiU looks surprisingly good. I just wish it had a name that I could take seriously.

Overall, I felt like it was a good presentation. I just felt like they needed one surprise announcement. One big game that they are working on that we can all get excited about.

And where was the Retro Studios title?

EXACTLY. What a horrible press conf. All rehashes and sequels. No date, price or hardware details, and worst of all, NO info on Nintendo Network and the rumored "Nintendo Points" achievement system.

Looking at the launch game list, I am interested in NOTHING. Sony had an amazing conference and "won" E3 this year, hands down.

Not big on anything I saw here outside of the 3DS games. Still not anywhere near sold on the WiiU, just seems like more Wii, now with the games I play on other platforms. Nintendo Land looked decent, for what it is. I still don't understand the point of the WiiU controller, it just seems pointless in a big way.

Apparently Spike is about to reveal a WiiU game that hasn't been announced yet.

EDIT: Oh, the Lego game was cool.

Reggie is revealing a Platinum games title for the WiiU right now. Working title of P100.

EDIT: I guess he didn't really show it. I thought they were going to show it. Maybe later?

They said they won't talk about it at the show. They rarely do, choosing to announce it later after everyone else has played their hand.

I was really hoping for something to knock my socks off. Alas, nothing did. More Pikmin is great, of course, but not enough for me to shell out for a whole system.

Maybe I'll just hook the Gamecube up again and play Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, and Pikmin 1 & 2. Not Mario Sunshine though....*shudder* Oh, and Eternal Darkness!

This would be the worst E3 since the reboot.

This ranks as one of the worst E3's of all time.

I'll have to look that up later.

Yeah, I have to say that this ranks as the most boring E3 that I can ever remember. So far, not a single announcement has gotten me excited. I'm not sure if that reflects more on the rut the industry has fallen into or my diminishing interest in gaming, although the two are at least somewhat related.

The Platinum games WiiU exclusive looks really cool, you guys have to catch some footage of it later. It's kind of like Pikmin... but not.

Wii U Specs courtesy of adriasang. The information is all very general. Some highlights:

Quote:
Battery life for the GamePad is 3 to 5 hours. This changes depending on the screen brightness. You can also play while charging the GamePad via the included AC Adapter. Charge time is 2 hours 30 minutes.
Quote:
The system has built in flash storage. You can also use SD Memory cards and external USB storage devices.
Video outputs include HDMI, Wii D cable, Wii composite, W RBG cable, Wii S Cable and Wii AV cable. Resolutions include 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i.
The system supports IEE802.11 b/g/n for Wi-Fi. You can also use the separately wold Wii LAN Adapter for a wired connection.
Other inputs include four USB2.0 inputs, two on the front and two on the back.
The only thing they're missing that would have been nice to know is the size of the internal storage.

Meh. Size of storage won't be a problem since SD cards are so cheap. Can players use external hard drives? Those are even cheaper.

Overall, not a great E3 showing from the bin N, but better than Microsoft and Sony's show. At least it was mostly focused on games.

Project P-100 looks to be a launch title.

Also, that Lego game looks awesome! Like Grand Theft Lego

I also like the idea of using 2 GamePads for the WiiU.

I'm also digging the changes to the GamePad. Like the joysticks, redesigned hand-holds, and the button placement.

Tell me they're smart enough to bundle a cradle for the controller...

Hopefully. They package a cradle in every 3DS. I imagine that they will do the same with the WiiU.
