Horrible Ideas

As a fun exercise my writing partner and I sometimes like to start off meetings with the worst tv show/film ideas possible. These are things we would never write because they would be impossible to get made (for one of a variety of possible reasons).

If you are interested in playing along, there are two ways to play, either:

1. Respond to a quoted idea with how you could "save" it; or
2. Post your own truly horrible idea.

I'll start:

Due to better education, Stanley the pedophile, finds that he is not able to get parents to leave their children alone with him. In the pilot, we see him fail as a boyfriend of a single mother, a Scout Master, and even as a priest. Then Stanley is hanging out with his acerbic, witty, fellow pedo, best friend's house and he sees that his best friend has also given up so he is buying a Japanese sex-doll robot. This gives Stanley an idea: "He'll pretend to be a robot". Stanley is introduced to the family and behaves like a robot consistently in front of the parents and says inappropriate things to the kids in a robot voice when they are away. He comes up with schemes to groom the kids for sex, but invariably his robotic schemes fail due to Stanley's need to maintain his identity as a robot and happenstance. Working Title: "Pedobot".

Captain Justice is a law-abiding superhero. As in he won't break any laws, including speeding or running a stop sign. This makes catching the bad guys tough since they don't mind breaking the law. Superpowers include moralizing, guilt transference, modesty, and pedantic speech-making. Working title: Righteous Justice

Ditch the robot and family and make it so he gets the Idea to become a catholic priest.
Have him go to seminary and try and figure out with classes will teach him how to lure in little boys. Hilarity ensues when when he reads too much into the lectures as actual pedo how-tos then tries to carry them out. He always ends up in jail, but is always bailed out by the head priest.

Actually make Stanley a robot due to an accident involving him repairing an ice cream truck. He must speak with whatever it is that Stephen Hawking uses. Laughs will roll in when you hear that monotone computer say "DO YOU WANT SOME CANDY AND OR POPSICLES LITTLE GIRL. RESPOND."

That was my point, most TV shows we know and love are terrible ideas, like Fringe(Alternate UNIVERSE!), Supernatural(Buffy with dudes!), Veronica Mars(Buffy without vampires), Firefly(cowboys in space), etc.

It's the execution that counts!

See the first example. There are some ideas that are truly horrible. If your idea is only as horrible as one that Joss Whedon might make, then it is not bad enough for this thread.

Trevor goes on a trip to Eastern Europe to see his heritage. He's had a rough month, as he was suspended from his private Catholic college for getting drunk and hurling crosses at a target. But things are looking up, as he brings his girlfriend along, planning to propose to her on the trip. One night, however, she is kidnapped by armed gunmen at the command of the count who governs the surrounding area. With the help of Grant, a drunken gypsy party animal, Sypha, a sexy witch/Swedish swimsuit model, and Alucard, a goth punk-rocker from Transylvania, Trevor will save his girlfriend from the evil Count Dracula. What a horrible night to have a curse!

This next one is a sitcom based on the Texas border. Wayne Dixon runs a vigilante militia group, protecting the United States from illegals trying to cross the fence. Hijinks ensue when Wayne finds out his wife is actually an illegal Canadian. Wayne has to deport her and now must raise his three daughters (3, 12, and 15) by himself while keeping America safe from Mexicans. Can one racist juggle three girls by himself? The catch is that he lives right on the border, and his neighbor on the other side of the fence is a sassy Mexican single mother trying to protect Mexico from American immigrants!

Any idea can be made unrecoverable if you overload it with horrible details. A better challenge is to come up with a short concept, one sentence or shorter, that seems horrible at first glance and see if someone can make it compelling.
