Game of Thrones Season 2

I figured this year I'd just do one mega thread rather than do episode specific ones.

I've read all of the books. I KNOW what's going to happen. And I'm unbelievable excited for the premiere on Sunday. There are very few shows I get this excited about.

A few bits of housekeeping. This thread will have spoilers up through the episode most recently aired in North America. If you don't want to be spoiled, don't read any further. Anything from unaired episodes - other than the official synopses and trailers - should be kept in the GoT series thread.

This is probably my favorite show ever. I read the books a long time ago and read them again after the first season. . . well, most of them. A Feast of Crows is so bloody dreary toward the middle that I've never gotten through it. . . to be fair, I've always started it after reading the other 3 first, so I might just be exhausted from several quite dark storylines. There are good things that happen, but they are baubles amidst a mountain of shit.

I wonder if they'll have an advanced shooting schedule to keep the kids from outgrowing their roles. A good amount of time passes in The Song of Ice and Fire (3 years in 5 books), so it would benefit them a lot by the last year (a 15 y/o looks a lot older than a 13 y/o).

In the novel's, the bits with Arya and Rob are fairly compartmentalized, so they could shoot these in advance without necessarily shooting EVERYTHING in advance.

Going to try and read the second book as the season goes on. I watched the first season but never read the first book. Hopefully I dont miss too much but it is just way too hared for a book to get my attention if i already know what will happen.

I'm quite excited for this. Too bad GRRM won't have book six written by the time the season is needed.

Book 2, A Clash of Kings, is by far my favorite of the series. You won't be disappointed.

You really should read book 1. Not because it's better than the show (I mean, it is), but because there is just tons more of what makes the show awesome in there. If you are going to read the rest, you kinda need the foundation the first book will give you- including a lot of history and religion that may sound boring now but is actually very interesting (and probably important to the end of the series).

We already know Book 3 will be split into two seasons, so he's got tons of time. Martin's been hundreds of pages into Book 6 for some time now. I don't think the wait will be as long as it was for Book 5.

My favorite book was probably 3, but I can hardly remember where one started and the other ended the last time I read them.

When I went to the book signing for A Feast For Crows, he claimed that A Dance With Dragons was made primarily of the content he had to cut from Feast due to it's massive size, and that it would be available the following year.

Ouch, but that makes sense given the material more than anything, I think.

'Dance' and 'Feast' were a planning and logistical nightmare, and now characters are starting to be pulled back from Essos. I wouldn't put too much money on it, but I'd be disappointed if 'Winds' doesn't come out by 2014.

If that happens, my brain would self-destruct. I'd be like dividing by zero. I figure 2016 at the earliest.

I think the story is getting more complicated, not less, so I'd say we're going to be waiting quite a while.

Heck, even the "author's note" at the end of Feast mentions that he just divided the 2 books up...

Media overload! http://blog.2bluesolutions.ca/2012/0...son-2-preview/

So excited. I just finished book 4 a few weeks back and I'm about 1/3 through book 5.

What I really love is that my wife is really excited as well. It's one of those shows where I feel like a nerd for loving it, but the non-nerds in my life love it as well.

From what I've read online, it sounds like they're actually diverging the show plot from the book plot a bit starting in Season Two - different character relationships, lots of scenes combined / edited, etc.

So I wonder if you do really know what's going to happen.

Yeah, I saw that too. They said this won't be "Clash of Kings" but the Song of Ice & Fire story which could have elements from later books.

I heard they will be taking a more slapstick comedy approach to it, with wacky dwarf-tossing and a mirthful Joffrey accidentally beheading just about everyone who visits his throne room. Expect a little "Home Alone" tribute whenever he messes up. That's Our Joffrey!
