Sega Goes Shooter With Binary Domain
It appears that the Japanese have fallen in love with third-person, squad-based shooters. The latest comes from Sega and Toshihiro Nagoshi (Yakuza series, Super Monkey Ball), and goes by the name Binary Domain. Aside from the terrible name (seriously, it sounds like the villain in a crappy hacker movie) Binary Domain is trying to do something difficult: meld bombastic shooter gameplay with existential philosophy. Lead developer Nagoshi says the game is about the meaning of Life - "Are the robots becoming more human, or are humans becoming more like machines?" Look for Binary Domain to hit the 360 and PS3 at an unspecified future date. |

Hmm, it's like I-Robot meets Terminator with some bad American stereo typing going on and sprinkled with some below average one liners...

I thought the same thing, but they're robots, so it shouldn't matter too much.

Interesting. Not the most unique premise, but it could lead to something good. Until they show some gameplay though I'm not getting too excited. Still, coming from the Yakuza team it does have potential.

This is what would have happened if Del Spooner failed in I Robot.
Anyway, the graphics remind me of Time Crisis for some reason. Other than that, meh.

That trailer was not that good. Maybe the game will end up being good.

I need to pick that up. I really liked the demo. It'll have to wait till after Christmas unless I see it on a deal sometime soon.

When the guy slide under the robot, I really thought it was a (very) poor man's Vanquish. Agreed. Even the "twist" ending doesn't really save this. And was that ragdoll in the cinematic? Yeesh. |

I passed it off as being Space Marine Shooter #238344 until the last 45 seconds or so. The premise introduced at the end seems interesting. Hopefully the rest of the game is more like that, and less like the first 3.5 minutes.

Indeed, that was the only thing that kept me from completely writing it off... not that I'm entirely opposed to Space Marine Shooter #238344 (fun is fun, sometimes), but some parts of that were downright cringe-worthy.

Okay, if that was actual gameplay graphics it was very bland. If that was CGI then it was VERY bland. I think just about every other third person shooter out there has much better graphics and lip syncing. I mean really that was bad.
Somehow the game still looks like it's going to be fun but it doesn't look like a great title at least graphics wise. |
