In Other News...July 26th
- Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is available for preorder. You want this. - A team of dedicated modders have painstakingly restored the content cut from Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 when it was rushed to market almost a decade ago. - The demo for Orcs Must Die! 2 is now on Steam and includes multiplayer. - The Humble Music Bundle - Pay what you want for great DRM free music that benefits charity. |
Will get baulders gate on pc and ipad. Also will have to revisit kotor2.
|
Another restorted content mod for Kotor2. That shows how diehard some of the fans are and how disappointing the ending will be. Wonder if it will have more than the other projects of its kind.
EDIT: Oh Gizka died? Weirdness. That's too bad they had a great deal done and it was playable all the way through with a couple really buggy parts. Glad these dudes picked up the ball and did their own. |
That humble music bundle is fantastic.
|
I had no idea there were restoration projects for KORTOR2. Weird.
And I need to get that enhanced Baulder's Gate...I'm one of like...4 people who never played it, ever. EDIT: OH HOLY SHIT. They Might be Giants are part of that bundle. SOLD. |
I tried one of the restoration projects for KotOR (can't remember which one), and it was kinda... bad. There was a fair amount of stuff they had to fill in themselves (as opposed to just restoring stuff that was already on the disc), and it wasn't to the same level of quality as the game proper. So just beware of whether this will actually be worth playing or not.
As for enhanced edition, I'm curious, but... I dunno, the game ran just fine on Win7 last time I fired it up, so I don't know what I need a re-release for. Especially at a $20 price point. Edit: It looks like it's just BG1 + expansion, and not BG2? Weird. No reason to bother for me then, since I've never cared for the first game. Low level D&D sucks, and has always sucked. |
It also adds a lot of new content as well. For me, that's worth the price.
|
I'm still annoyed KOTOR 2 isn't on Steam.
|
Holy fuck, I thought the KotOR 2 restoration was never going to happen at that rate. I just might have to buy and play the game now! I'd always avoided it like the plague because of what I'd heard those damned publishers did to the ending.
|
I went ahead and grabbed the Humble Music Bundle, as it's a great deal.
I need to stop spending money though. |
I am so incredibly happy that BG2 is coming to the iPad. I would have had to reinstall windows otherwise.
I have a copy of Max Payne 3 that's collecting dust here, since the bloody thing wouldn't work on Windows 8, and I've used from the first consumer preview until a few months ago. Didn't re install Windows 7 just to play that, but Baldur's FUCKING Gate? Oh yes, I would have, BECAUSE BOO COMPELLS ME. GO FOR THE WALLET BOO! GO FOR THE WALLET! |

I'm not touching that BG Enhanced Edition until BG2 is released as well. I've been meaning to play through them both again at some point and getting through the first and then finding out that I can't play the second would be somewhat disheartening.
|
Baldur's Gate 1 simply isn't very good unless you absolutely adore never-ending D&D combat. It's a fairly dry grind, and I can't imagine myself ever playing it through again voluntarily. BG2 was leaps and bounds better.
|
I'll probably wait for the BG2 one to come out as well, then pick up 1 and 2 together.
Although I can't say I like the screenshot.... |
Sweeeeet. I've been wanting a completed KOTOR2 mod for ages! Glad to see a team finished it up.
Where the hell do you find this game these days? |
Restored BG? Sign me up.

edit: The only other D&D games that managed that off the top of my head were the Dark Sun games. |
I want to see the game in motion first. I remain pretty unconvinced till I see it moving. The screenshots have been pretty underwhelming.
|
Speaking of BG2, will the same team that just did BG1 work on BG2 and give it the same treatment? I can't seem to find any info on this.
