New Map revealed In Mechwarrior Online
As you guys can probably guess I am a huge Battletech fan. I know you're struggling to figure out why. It's subtle, I know. Anyways, The folks are Piranha have released a few new videos for the game. The most ecent shows off the map Caustic Valley. Looks like a nightmare for heat management. A video showing off the Centurion after the jump.

I haven't really been following this Mechwarrior game, so forgive me if this sounds like ignorant surprise, but having maps that effect the performance of yoru mech is a pretty awesome idea.
Volcanic worlds where you need a low heat build, or ice worlds where you can just go all out etc. This game could really shape up to be something epic. |
No comment, except to say that previous MW games have had that concept with both cold and hot worlds - at least MW3 did, can't remember about 4.
|
I really wanted to jump on the founder package, but no concrete news of server for my region.

That video was awesome, but the voice-over sounded like a very nerdy programmer. They should have hired Psykoboy :)

It's Jenner time! |
I definitely remember varying environments in MW2, even levels without atmosphere. Hell, if I remember right one of the expansions had a final mission on and inside a giant space ship.
|
Did the varying enviroments alter mech play though? Or where they just pretty backgrounds.
|
They did, but it mattered less because of nonsense like coolant flush, which was NEVER part of Battletech. Coolant flush was introduced in Mechwarrior 3 to make things easier on players.
|
they will affect things like heat levels, i believe heat would climb faster/stay longer in the caustic valley map, and in the cold map they have talked about your heat would disparate quicker etc.

i noticed that the forest map the free hunchback would run at about 4% heat threshold when moving at max speed.
also, in mech 2, not only did the different planets have differing effects on heat efficiency, but I swear I recall some of the planets having much greater gravity than others effecting speed and jump jet power. the coolant thing...it makes some sense, there are always ways to deal with an overheating powerplant. for instance, The Harrier has a tank of water it uses as a "consumable-coolant" when it's engine's at max power for VTOL activity. |
