Kid Icarus Uprising Dev Project Sora Shuts It's Doors
Project Sora, the development studio which created Kid Icarus Uprising for the Nintendo 3DS, has closed it's doors. Andriasang directed us to a note on their website, which says the studio was closed June 30, and the website itself will shut down at the end of the month.
Project Sora was founded in 2009 as a collaboration between Masahiro Sakurai's Sora Ltd development studio and Nintendo. Kid Icarus Uprising will end up being the studio's only title. Sakurai has moved on to oversee development of the new Smash Bros titles for the WiiU and 3DS, although the actual development duties are being handled by Namco Bandai. Did not care for uprising. Hated the controls and the circle pad pro did not let the right stick work the camera.

As I understand it, this isn't really a big deal as Project Sora wasn't so much a studio as a collaboration between Sora Ltd., and a developers chosen from within Nintendo. They're all basically going back to their day jobs. I would gladly welcome a sequel to Icarus.

I'm surprised Nintendo broke up the team considering that they made one of maybe the two games worth owning a 3DS for. Hopefully they take note of who was responsible for what, because I'm sure we'll be seeing another Kid Icarus in the future, and I'd like it to maintain the same charm as the original. Just without the shitty controls next time.

Based on the details, this sounds only about as shocking (read: not) as how the Smash Bros. Brawl team only existed for the one game.
