Kickstart My Game
After an (unplanned) 2 week absence, Kickstart My Game is back. We look at some of the more interesting and worthy game-related projects on Kickstarter to help you decide which projects you may want to support.

Mage Knight, the old minatures fighting game is trying to make a digital return. Developer MFV already created the HeroClix Online, and they're looking to do the same with Mage Knight. They have the full backing and blessing of Mage Knight owner WizKids, and if the response to the campaign is big enough they may bring the property back as a physical product too. Mage Knight Revenge is just kicking off their campaign, and they're $5K of the way towards a $700K goal with 31 days to go. Next up is The Repopulation, a F2P sci-fi MMO. Unlike a lot of projects out there, this isn't a pie in the sky wish. Developer Above & Beyond Technologies has been working on this for years in their free time. The Kickstarter money would go to the all important polish and tuning portions of the game, which will be entering a beta phase relatively soon. Their campaign has only a couple of days left to go, but they've already surpassed their modest $25K goal. It wouldn't be Kickstart My Game without a point & click adventure game. Today we show you Jack Houston & The Necronauts, an homage to the retro sci-fi pulp of the 50s. Developer Warbird Games is $23K of the way towards a $56K goal, with 40 days to go. I don't highlight many film projects, probably because most of them are either celebrity vanity projects, ponderous art films or insipid documentaries. But then I saw Space Command, an attempt to revive optimistic sci-fi adventure films. The core team includes veteran sci-fi writers and VFX artists, and they have some recognizable 'genre' actors on board. They've surpassed their $75K goal with 14 days to go, but each tier they pass from here on out adds to the project. In the comic realm we have Halloween Eve, from artist Amy Reeder and writer Brandon Montclare. I'm a huge fan of Reeder's art, and this looks like something right up my alley. If you see a project you think may be worthy of a mention, please mention it in the master thread. |
