Smite Beta Key Giveaway

Hi Rez Studios, developers of the new action-MOBA Smite have kindly given us a supply of beta keys to distribute to the community. Want one? Tell us what property you'd most like to see made into a game.

I've been playing Smite for a couple of weeks now, and it's a fun riff on the traditional MOBA form. For starters the action is moved to ground level from the usual isometric view, making things a more action-oriented. You actually have to aim your attacks you be effective. Hi-Rez did an amazing job on Tribes Ascend, so I have every reason to believe they'll do as well with Smite.

Beta keys will be distributed via PM.

Interesting, I can't recall seeing a MOBA (I guess that term won!) that wasn't an overhead view before.

Although I do think such dramatic music doesn't mesh well with cute character looks/sounds.

Lint of Death 06-19-2012 12:34 PM

I played SO MUCH of this with Master Blaster, Ghostbear, and Ten19 this past weekend. On the one hand, it's so much fun. On the other, I'm absolutely shocked (seriously!) how quickly the usual moba scum of the earth can get to work doing their worst. Apparently them having barely a day of experience with a closed beta that has itself been out less than a month doesn't stop them from being the absolute most offensive bunch I have ever had the displeasure of gaming with. And cross-team chat doesn't even exist before post-game!

I remember seeing something about this awhile ago and then forgetting about it over time. Hi Rez did a good thing with Tribes, let's see how well this one does.

As for a property that I would most like to see made into a game, I'm kinda cheating since it already has, would be the Song of Ice and Fire world. I didn't play the RTS but the RPG was not bad but it wasn't what I want from that type of world. Give me something akin to Skyrim in that world and I would be a happy camper.

I have faith in Hi-Rez studios, as I have enjoyed both Global Agenda AND Tribes. Also, I am all for more unique titles in the MOBA genre.

The property I would love to see made into a game would have to be the 1982 Scott Baio comedy Zapped!. The game would be a god sim that takes place after the events of the film (and ignoring the events of 1993 sequel Zapped Again!). You would play as Scott Baio who has just finished destroying the world after Felice Schachter is killed in an accident involving a drunk driver. The guilt you feel for destroying all of existence forces your hand into rebuilding the world, but now you are at a crossroad where you have the choice to put things back the way they were or to shape life into a wholly new creation that fits your ideals. What choices will you make in "Zapped!: YOU in Charge"?

I would actually REALLY like a beta key for this.

What property would I like to see made into a game? I'm going to throw a bit of an odd-ball, and say Panty and Stocking With Garterbelt. I want a game done in that animation style with the stylized sound effects and everything like that. (I actually first thought of a new Samurai Jack game, but I thought I'd one-up that)

Libuke 06-19-2012 02:09 PM

I'd like to give this a shot I have/due play most of the other MOBA (I still don't like that term really) games out there.

As for property. I want something where I can run around the Warhammer 40K universe. Big RPG or MMO I am not sure but I am sure there could be a lot of cool stuff to see.

SilentScreams 06-19-2012 04:50 PM

I'd like a shot at this!

Property...like Libuke said, Warhammer 40k. I'll be a little more specific though. I want an Inquisitor game done in the style of Mass Effect.

Spectre-7 06-19-2012 04:58 PM

I keep thinking I'll find a MOBA fun... and I keep discovering I'm wrong. If this one is a bit more action game-like, it's got a much better chance of finally turning me around.

As for a property I'd like to see made into a game? Robotech. I know it's been done before, but they've all been terrible. Give me something more like Battlefield but with veritech fighters and cyclones, and then we're talkin'.

Shjinta 06-19-2012 06:23 PM

I'd love to give this a shot, see how it stacks up.

I'm waiting for a game based off Hellsing XD

First wave of keys went out. I have a couple more here, and hope to have more to give away next week. If you want one of the remaining keys, or want one from the next wave, just post here. Sending me PMs begging for keys won't work.

Satertek 06-19-2012 09:17 PM

I've been in both Hi-Rez's previous betas so I'm a bit bitter I haven't gotten into this one yet. ;) Would love to try it out.

I've always wanted a Stargate game, but the property seems to be cursed (leaving behind a trail of bankrupt studios and canceled games), and with all the shows off the air now, it seems the opportunity is sadly passed...

Thank you kindly, you sex demon, you.

What hasn't been turned into a game yet? We're living in a sort of golden age for properties turning into reasonable games.

I'd like to see a reasonably realistic simulation of a kitchen/cooking competition game based on Iron Chef that could be education and fun at the same time.

Mashidar 06-19-2012 10:17 PM

I'd like to see this beta title in action as I've looked at streams about it but have yet to decide if I'll invest in it.

As for something to turn into a game as Quinefer said what has not been made into a game yet. In fact I'd like to see new versions of older titles that keep the same type of gameplay and update the graphics. Suikoden for example I loved the first 2 then 3 and 4 I didn't enjoy and 5 was great as well.

But something I would like to see more of is the Japanese visual novel games such as Fate/Stay Night, and Clannad. After playing Clannad on the PC with a translation patch I would not mind something like that coming out from an established series like CSI or Fringe or even Lost. It's the direction some of those series needed to go in when they turned into game form.

Steins;Gate please!!!

(btw. Smite is quite good)

I suppose I shall throw myself on the list for beta keys, it really can't hurt me.

A property I'd like to see made into a game? How about Mordheim, I know it would its just an extension of the Warhammer universe, but I always loved the idea of the game and would love to see it turned into a video game. Perhaps kind of like Blood Bowl, but better and none of that real-time crap (I know it was an option, but silly none the less).

Formanovo 06-20-2012 06:42 AM

A smite beta key wouldn't be too shabby. I'm very curious to play around with the new things they are adding to the genre.

I've always wanted the Sword of Truth series to be made into a game. It is truly the most epic fantasy tale I've ever read and with its 11 books in the series there is room for a big franchise that could take its time to really dig into the engaging story. I think gameplay akin to what we saw in Witcher 2 would work perfectly for this game and I'm secretly hoping that someone will end up modding the series into Witcher 2.

Zigballistic 06-20-2012 10:16 AM

A top down isometric turn based game based on D20 system Boot Hill, with classic character classes like gunslinger and Pinkerton armored coach guard with odd ones like civil war deserter and apache knife hound.

peter005 06-20-2012 11:02 AM

Hi, i really want this key so i can play the game.

I'd like if you would put in very much levels.
I'd like to see maybe any ancient aztec Gods or Chinese/Japenese masters...
Maybe a better interface of the menu would not hurt.

See ya, :D
