In Other News...June 18
- Yay, Australia! The Aussie parliament has finally approved an R18+ rating for video games. Up until now any game which would be rated above the R15 rating would either have to undergo heavy editing or be refused classification altogether. The proposal still has to be ratified by the states, but it's expected to pass easily and go into effect in 2013.
- Sega recently decided to delay the North American and European releases of Anarchy Reigns from the relatively slow July - when it's launching in Japan - for a more advantageous time. So of course they're launching it instead in Q1 2013, which means it will be facing Bioshock Infinite, DmC, Tomb Raider, God of War Ascension, Metro Last Light, Crysis 3, Gears of War Ascension and Dead Space 3. Good job Sega! - Valve has hired Yanis Varoufakis to be their in-house economist. According to Varoufakis, Valve hired him to, in part help with an "issue of linking economies in two virtual environments (creating a shared currency)", which he compared to the current Eurozone crisis. Whether this means there will soon be ValveBuks penetrating Team Fortress, Dota 2 and Counter-Strike remains to be seen. - July's Walking Dead #100 reportedly has pre-order sales over 300,000 for the first printing, which would almost certainly make it the first comic outside of the Big 2 to capture the #1 monthly spot since 2002. In other Walking Dead new, Episode 2 of the Telltale game is still set for release by the end of this month. |
Wait, there's two fall titles coming out called GoW: Ascension?

I can't wait for the Walking Dead episode 2.

It really is about time the R18 got passed, but it's absolutely stupid that the federal government had to step in to get it pushed through.
While I import the majority of my games, I think I'll have to buy the first R18+ game just on general principle. |
Sega are really great at bombing titles.

Aussie aussie aussie! Oi oi oi!
|
Blech. I was really looking forward to Anarchy Reigns next month.
|
SEGA really lost it after the Dreamcast era, with few exceptions.

Why do I think people just throw enough money at Sega because they feel bad for it? Like...Nintendo and Sony were its old roommates in college, and their wives (stockholders) keep telling them to STOP letting them come over to crash (Release a game) and yet they keep saying yes, so long as it's just for a few days bro.

Valve's games already have a shared currency, it's called "the one in our bank accounts"

To be honest though, I'm still not sure what I'm getting with this one. It seems rather dull from gameplay vids. |

Basically it's an arena brawler, and there's some seriously broken stuff you can exploit, but that's not too terribly surprising. |
