Saturday Screenshots - Dragon's Crown
I'm cheating a little here because the newest screens here are a month old already. But the news that Atlus has assumed North American publishing duties on Dragon's Crown is enough to warrant a post. Originally set to be published by UTV Ignition, the Vanillaware-developed 2D side-scrolling RPG is now set for a 2013 release on the PS3 and Vita. Oh, and it features 4 player co-op. It's like the Golden Axe you always wanted. |
Them ladies are... heavily featured!
I think they modeled axe girl on the right after Ice-T's wife CoCo.
and the lady on the left looks straight out of Tarot Witch of the Black Rose
Real, or "magically enhanced"? I know for sure her bra's gotta have some arcane support to keep things organized.

Well its signature vanillaware style. But 2013? bah.
Reminds me of the old D&D Arcade games that I loved so much.
Its ridiculous, but I love the art style. It's like watching a Ralph Bakshi movie.
Basically it's intended as a sort of spiritual successor to the D&D arcade games like Shadow over Mystara. I loved those games and I'm a fan of Vanillaware's work so I'm really looking forward to this.

This looks awesome.

Anyone remember the Sega Dreamcast side-scrolling beat'em up that came out near launch? This reminds me of that quite a bit. I'm hoping the devs remember it to and they'll make a little-kid wizard who scores combos like mad to power up insane spells.
Are you thinking of Guardian Heroes?
I wonder what this looks like in motion, I am curious to see if they bounce. Scientific curiosity is all.

The art reminds me somewhat of a beautiful PS2 game I can't remember the name of either. . . you selected levels with a little girl reading a book (she also had a cat). It was gorgeous but after the 360 released, so I only played it a short time on the PS2. Guardian Heroes got played by me for probably over 100 hours as I had it as a teenager and didn't get to buy games often (and Gamefly wasn't around). |
Guardian Heroes is pretty neat, and the re-jazzed version is nice.
Barely aged at all, but this shouldn't be too much of a surprise, since it was made by Treasure. The PS2 game you're probably thinking of could be either Grim Grimoire or Odin Sphere, bother of which were made by the same guys as Dragon's Crown. |
I want this game. A lot.
