Codemasters Rebrands as Codemasters Racing, Dropping Non-Racing Projects
Publisher Codemasters has rebranded itself Codemasters Racing to reflect it's new exclusive focus. Guess which genre they're focusing on.

The change is not exactly shocking. For the last several years Codemasters has been putting out more racers than anything else. Most of their racing titles were focused more on the European markets, but the Grid and Dirt titles had some penetration in North America.

This also means that Codemasters non-gaming properties are dead in the water. That includes the strategy series Overlord and the cult favorite hardcore shooter Operation Flashpoint. It also includes a series of one off games which never reached a high enough level to spawn sequels, titles like Jericho, Damnation, Bodycount and Bullet Witch. Which goes a long way in explaining why Codemasters management made the decision to focus exclusively on racers from here on out.

The first title released under the new name will be Dirt Showdown next month.

Well, I guess this means they'll stop shitting up the OpFlash name now.

Still, it'd be nice to see more GRID and less shitty Dirt games.

awwww...Overlord was kind of fun.

Now I'm going to go see what this means for Triumph Studios (Age of Wonders, Overlord). I hope they find another publisher, or better yet, go indie.

Edit - Their website front page still promotes Overlord II...okay. I know they are working on a new game, and have been for some time. I hope they show it soon, and I really hope it's a new Age of Wonders.
