I really wish they would spend time on making the world react to mechs in a game - seriously. Imagine buildings shaking apart or partially collapsing into rubble, gas fires, etc. Air shockwaves, billowing dust, etc.

Who doesn't remember those tiny plebeians sprites running away from you in Mechwarrior 4?

That said, I liked using a moderately fast mech with jumpjets machineguns and flamethrowers. Getting away from heat-related recator overloads was a problem sometimes.

JayVe 05-05-2012 02:25 PM

Actually, the more I watch the Mechwarrior Online videos, the less impressed I am with it. I DO LIKE Mechwarrior Tactics though. Nice!

Narradisall 05-06-2012 07:37 AM

They really tried to make the combat in that Mechwarrior online video look as dull as they possibly could, didn't they?

Squidbot 05-06-2012 02:31 PM

Bleh.

wyeast 05-06-2012 03:04 PM

That's like... mech-sized CoD... <_<

Bleh, indeed. :(

Panthera 05-06-2012 03:22 PM

Wrong thread?

Essentially yes.
Because they are relatively small as mechs go and their ability to traverse the maps is entirely dependent on their non-ambulatory systems...too me they are little more than flying junk piles on screen. The small size coupled with the speed of combat and over-detailing of the environment gives it all a kind of "Transformers" effect...where you can't really distinguish anything other than "that's an enemy junk-pile...I better shoot it."

I honestly don't totally dislike what I see in Hawken though. It looks like fun in it's own way. It's just that to me, the execution of their ideas is flawed. Also it looks like the guy in charge of making the maps had a fever...and the only thing that could cure it was more "industrial future".

JayVe 05-06-2012 10:38 PM

I like what I see in Hawken a LOT more than what I see in Mechwarrior Online.

Pale Ale 05-07-2012 03:47 AM

Wait are you guys complaining and comparing old alpha footages?

Hey, guess what I figured out...

JayVe 05-10-2012 11:44 PM

Holy heck, these Japanese hobbyists are building a 12-foot-tall pilotable mech

http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/17m5...g/original.jpg

Quote:

...this is straight out of Ghost In The Shell. Meet Vaudeville, a twelve-foot-tall, five-ton mecha that's manipulated using Kinect, or that XBox peripheral commonly known for its embarrassing dance party games.

A group of Tokyo mecha enthusiasts are building this imposing machine with large mitts, but don't expect heavy firepower here. Once completed, Vaudeville's primary weapon will be an optional water gun, a far cry from a positron sniper rifle. (The engineers also offer to equip Vaudeville with a mop, as a comically impractical "home cleaning robot.")

Wasson_ 05-11-2012 12:58 PM

fuckin sweet.

Ghostbear 05-11-2012 07:21 PM

If the ammo doesn't go, pretty evenly.

He's got half a billion c-motes, does that mean I can throw a fit when I don't launch with that amount?

It is the 31st Century and mankind
is once again at war

The Battlefields of the future are dominated by
huge robotic war machines known as BattleMechs

Piloting these awesome weapons of war
are men and women, the elite of the elite,
knowing that each battle could be their last

They are
MechWarriors

bean 05-23-2012 07:58 AM

I'd be likely to do the $60 one if I play it and love it, but without any try-before-I-buy that's a tough sale.

Pale Ale 05-23-2012 04:20 PM

Founder's Mech?

I'm gonna say Mackie till proven wrong.

Hey, guess what I figured out...

biosc1 05-23-2012 04:42 PM

I am so attempted to get the Elite Package...

Reverant 06-18-2012 02:14 AM

Some info on required specs:

The dev blog also outlines a tentative closed beta testing schedule for the rest of the summer as well as MWO's system requirements. "Right now a duo core system is our minimum spec machine but it is also our main focus of concern," Piranha says. "It's obvious that a quad core system is the key as even the earliest Core 2 Quad systems run the game very well and it is our goal (since there are still so many out there) to optimize the Core 2 Duo systems to run much faster."

IIntrude 06-19-2012 05:12 PM

I went for the Legendary pack today. Now to just pass the time until early release or beta invite, whichever comes sooner.

Ghostbear 06-19-2012 06:58 PM

I am legendary. :)

MachEnergy 06-19-2012 07:39 PM

I don't really follow what the point is of paying for early access to a game that will surely wipe all your stats when it leaves beta. Yet I'm still tempted.

Any plans to run a house unit or merc unit in game GB? I really want to join up with an active group of mech fans.

Well all the goodies they are talking about don't really apply until the game launches. Also everything from "early" access on stays in your account.

I have been thinking about it, for sure.

IIntrude 06-19-2012 08:23 PM

Well keep us informed if you do. I am ready to lay down some fire support.

Panthera 06-19-2012 08:56 PM

Veteran here. I'm in.

Ghostbear 06-20-2012 06:05 PM

Well, let's come up with a name for our Merc company. Something that spells out CoG would be good.

Pale Ale 06-20-2012 06:08 PM

Not Company of Ghostbears!!!

TRY HARDER!!!!

MachEnergy 06-20-2012 06:09 PM

So does everybody start mid August, regardless of which tier you buy? If so, and you only buy the bottom tier, are they just going to stop you after 1 month and make you wait until open launch?

Cacophony of Gorditas.

Seriously the first thing that popped into my head.

Ok there seem to be a lot of misconceptions about this. Open beta starts mid august. Buying into these tiers just gives you early access to the launch product. You are not, I repeat, not buying the beta. Your premium time will start when Early Access starts.

Chupacabra of Gatekeeper

Clan Onyx Granite

Ghostbear 06-20-2012 06:43 PM

I think the Colonial Grenadiers would be good.

Panthera 06-20-2012 07:21 PM

I second Colonial Grenadiers.

Now I miss mst3k...

I surprise even myself when I say I'd put a vote behind that name.

Capitalistic Orgy is a Go!
House Coggy
Clanner-Only Gentlemen
CMOS or GTFO
Carry On, Grizzly

MachEnergy 06-21-2012 12:19 PM

Can we have a gay clan? Cock Gobblers? :p

But really, some random ones that I liked:

Chains of Guilt
Chainsaw Operation Guide
Clark Oatmeal Griswold

...man, this is difficult

The list of 'Mechs that start with "G" is slim pickings, indeed. At least the "C" list is nice, it's got some of my faves like the Catapult! Catapults or GTFO is my new choice.

Edit: inb4 Cougar jokes

Lint of Death 06-21-2012 12:34 PM

Son of a bitch we just HAVE to go with "House Cougars"
