M-Rated Castlevania Animated Series Coming to Netflix

An "R-rated as fuck" animated Castlevania series will be coming to Netflix later this year.

Hollywood wunderkind Adi Shankar (The Grey; Dredd; A Walk Among the Tombstones) will be executive producing, with Adventure Time's Fred Seibert and his Frderator Studios handling the animation and veteran comic scribe Warren Ellis penning the first season.

The first season will be based on Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, which is the first of many (many, many) encounters between the Belmont clan and Count Dracula.

As we all know, there have been a lot of film and TV adaptations of video games, and very few good ones. But Seibert & Ellis working on an adult-oriented series sounds like a great pairing, so we can hold out hope this bucks the trend.

M-rated, huh?

"Dracula knelt in position, his hands bound, waiting excitedly; Trevor stood behind him and readied his weapon, saying softly but firmly, 'Time to show you what this whip can REALLY do.'"

This could be really fun! Of course it could be awful too, but here's hoping for the former.

Trainwreck in the making.

Isn't this the guy who did the "Dirty Laundry" Punisher short?

Might have potential.

Hmmm, interesting. Wait and see, wait and see.

It's M rated. That makes it 50% better than any previous venture.

jpublic is always wrong.

Guys, there is no such thing as an M rating for TV shows. :p

Pedantry aside, I've seen some folks online complaining that this will likely contain sexual content. Apparently they aren't very familiar with Dracula or vampire lore in general?

I couldn't for the life of me remember what the US TV equivalent of R or M rating is.

TV-MA

tooshort

HBO Spawn animated series was TV-MA and it was fantastic. It's probably more for violence than the occasional boob appearance. Dracula gots to have his boob blood.

Well, at least the bondage part of my post is confirmed there.

I saw similar "M-rated" headlines on other sites as well. I figured it must have come from the PR release or something. No worries either way. :)

I'd watch that. Who wouldn't?

Belmont, tied to a wooden cross, blindfolded, Dracula walking around him with a riding crop.

"A miserable little pile of..."

*leans in next to Belmont's ear*

"secrets."
