So, I decided to walk home from work today. Halfway home, a disheveled fellow stops and asks me for directions. He then says, "Are you a cop?" He goes on to explain that he needs a subway token because he's delivering a pound of marijuana to a drug sale, and tells me where the sale will be conducted.

A guy provides a summary of the news from the Wall Street Journal for the corresponding day in 1930. Read his "Socratic monologue" for an explanation of why he's doing it. I knew about the 1930 rally and the fact that Hoover et al. are (somewhat) unfairly maligned, but it's pretty interesting to see how the actual information they had to work with was so mixed.
I don't think it's quite as applicable to today as he does, but it does sound a cautionary note that hindsight...
