Ozymandias Leaves Microsoft for Amazon

Microsoft Director of Game Platform Strategy, and XBL community staple, Andre Vrignaud, better known as Ozymandias, has parted ways with Microsoft to take a position with Amazon, in what many are speculating is a bid on Amazon's part to become a major player in the digital distribution space. Vrignaud had this to say on his personal blog:

I make this announcement with mixed emotions as I�m excited about where Microsoft is going in the next few years as they look to reinvent digital entertainment� but I�m also obviously very intrigued about what Amazon is looking to do.

GameSpot speculates that this move has something to do with Amazon's removal of XBLA game codes from their product listing last month.

FS: 120GB IPod Classic 6th Gen/8GB iPhone 3G

I've got a black 120GB iPod classic that I want to sell. This is the unit only, no headphones and no usb cable included. The only damage to the unit itself is the standard scratched up back plate that you see on all used iPod classics. I'm asking $130 shipped. I'd like to get one of the new 16GB Nanos to replace it.

I've also got an 8GB iPhone 3G that I'm willing to sell. If you're interested, I'm asking $190 shipped and would be using the $ to get an iPhone 4, so it may take longer to get the 3G out. I would include a usb cable with the iPhone.

I can post pictures later tonight if you're interested in that. Also, if you have further questions about the units, I have neither on me so that would have to wait till I get off work later as well.

Bounty Hunting in the Old Republic

The latest trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic shows off a little of what the mission structure in the game will be like. But mostly it's about making references to another piece of the Star Wars Extended Universe. I think fans will be happy with their inclusion.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is slated for a 2011 release.

On this episode of As The Realtime Worlds Turn, it's revealed that the troubled studio, which is currently embroiled in bankruptcy proceedings, has found a buyer for its currently in development Project MyWorld. Who that buyer is, has yet to be disclosed beyond that they are an "American company". No word yet on what, if any plans the new owner has for the 23 Dundee, Scotland based developers currently working on the title. APB, for those interested, is still on the auction block...

Windows XP vs Windows 7 on an old laptop

I just upgraded my Macbook Pro HDD from it's old 120 gig 5400 rpm drive to a Hitachi 500 gig 7200 rpm and am pretty blown away by the performance difference (although I haven't tried any games). Also, having the new HDD has finally given me room for a bootcamp partition again. I already have a copy of Windows XP but I remember there was tons of positive chat about Windows 7 when it came out, especially compared to Vista's performance. So, I was wondering if there might be any benefits in going with Windows 7 compared to XP for my specs, which are:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33 ghz
2 gig DDR2
A 150 gig partition on the above mentioned drive.
Radeon X1600

I would use it mainly for games, mostly older ones considering the specs, along with the occasional modern game like Torchlight. Thanks a bunch :).

Mass Effect 2 By The (Insane) Numbers

There are a lot of Mass Effect 2 fans out there. Some of whom technically qualify as crazy. Their insanity has been laid bare by a series of stats Bioware has given to IGN.

You too can use these stats to determine how conformist or rebellious you were in your Mass Effect 2 experience. For instance since I played as a female engineer Shepard I can safely call my playthrough as pretty unusual.

Now these stats aren't just being kept for fun. En masse they will form an integral tool the studio will use to guide development of future Mass Effect games. Individually these stats can be imported over to Mass Effect 3 to make that experience more personalized and unique.

So I have a friend who is wondering if it is at all possible for someone to hack their facebook account to gain access to their computer. someone mentioned they have access to their files.

I told him while possible technically, it is very very unlikely that facebook is how he hacked if he at all was able to. I told him more than likely he was bluffing. Or that if he does have access, he had physical access or used some social engineering/hacking to figure out some info. Anything else I should add or say otherwise?

This does bring up an interesting issue, what if anything, does everyone do to protect themselves while doing their day to day routine on the internet?

When the missus is out of town I catch up on my movie going, I suppose, as today I saw a double feature of Mesrine: Killer Instinct & Mesrine: Public Enemy No 1. I wanted to see them both back-to-back since I wondered if they would feel like one film split in two (a la Kill Bill).

They didn't. Killer Instinct is the far better of the two, and I would say that Public Enemy is unnecessary, as you get the gist of the character in a far better package with Killer Instinct. It was a good character study, though, and I think it really serves Vincent Cassel well. I've always thought he was a good actor (loved him in Eastern Promises), but these films really cement him as one of the greats, IMO. I know he's got some big English language movies coming out (most notably Black Swan) and he's now in the, "will watch a movie because he's in it" category.

Both movies are worth it for the acting, but as far as story goes Killer Instinct is the only one worth a strong recommendation.

As a side note, waiting for these movies was a slow burn as I remember seeing adverts for them in the London Tube in 2008, and now they're finally in the States. Weird, that.

Epic's "Fate of Carmine" Campaign Raises $150,000 for Charity

Whether you voted to end the Carmine line, or Save Private Carmine, you and thousands of fellow Gears fans raised $150,000 for Child's Play according to Epic's Cliff Bleszinski. As for which fate was chosen for the latest Carmine, well, it looks like we won't be finding that out until Gears 3 is released next year.
