Step 3: Install OSX

Posted 11-06-2010 at 01:24 AM by Banacek
Finally done installing OSX on the Hackintosh. In fact, I'm posting from it now. While installing OSX wasn't as hard as some other installs I've done, it's definitely not as easy as some people make it out to be. Be prepared to install multiple times to get the install right. Here's some tips that I discovered:
  • Run Memtest before doing anything else, just to rule out bad memory.
  • If you need to reinstall, remove the existing partition and create a new one. Erasing it isn't enough.
  • If you run any Apple updates, run Multibeast before you reboot the computer.

Here is the final list of steps I followed:

1.) Boot using iBoot ATI 5xxx-3
2.) Install OS X
3.) Reboot using iBoot ATI 5xxx-3
4.) Remove iBoot ATI 5xxx-3 disc.
5.) Launch MultiBeast but don't let the installer run
6.) Launch and install Mac OS X v10.6.4 Update (Combo), but don't click restart when it completes
7.) Launch and install Snow Leopard Graphics Update, but don't click restart when it completes
8.) Run MultiBeast with the following options:
- UserDSDT
- Advanced Options -> Kexts -> Audio -> LegacyHDA -> VoodooHDA (depends on your audio chipset)
- Advanced Options -> Kexts -> Disk -> JMicron36x (aka GSATA) -> JMicron36xSATA
- Advanced Options -> Kexts -> Disk -> JMicron36x (aka GSATA) -> JMicron36xATA (Optional for ATA/IDE support only)
- Advanced Options -> Kexts -> Graphics -> Enablers -> ATY_Init Vervet
- Advanced Options -> com.apple.boot.plist -> 32-bit GraphicsEnabler=No
- Advanced Options -> smbios.plist -> Mac Pro -> Core i7
9.) Close MultiBeast and click restart on Mac OS X v10.6.4 Update (Combo) or Snow Leopard Graphics Update
10.) Install Realtek kext Ethernet port (from here)

Tomorrow I install Windows 7.
