Eyes to Brain

So an interesting happened to me on the way home from work today. I was nearly home, about to cross, the road, when this happened:
Eyes to Brain: Just spotted a car a few metres away coming straight towards us. If we stay where we are, we wont be in its path.
Brain to Ears: Why didnt you warn us about this?
Ears to Brain: Listening to music boss.
Brain to Legs: Okay, run for it. Cross the road.
Legs to Brain: Boss? Did you hear Eyes?
Brain to Legs: Yes.
Legs to Brain: So you know that if we run now, we're putting ourselves in danger?
Brain to Legs: Yes. Now shut up and run.
And thats what I did. I cant understand it. Why didnt I do the sensible thing and stand there on the side of the road until the car had passed?

I'm guilty of doing this myself. No idea why my brain processes dictate that I do something so completely against common sense and irrational.
I guess sometimes you just get so surprised by something that rational thinking just doesn't work and your only response is 'Run. Now" even if that means putting yourself in danger. |
