Learn Japanese and Go Far in Japan!

It is a recognized part of post World War II Japanese history that foreigners have often been able to earn beyond their worth in certain fields in Japan. The first thing that comes to mind for most is English teaching, but actually, it's the entertainment fields like modeling and acting where the big money is made. A wash up in Hollywood? Move to Japan and enjoy the easy work with low expectations from your employer. Or, more truthfully, your employer's lack of ability to discern your performance.

While Asians are often abused and blackmailed into prostitution, westerners with European features can make a ton if they're smart about it, either as hostesses, prostitutes, or both. Sadly, I understand that the demand for foreign hosts isn't nearly what it is for foreign hostesses. However, if you're fluent in Japanese you may still be able to find an opening (wink wink).

Anyway, I was reminded of the sometimes cushy lifestyle for foreigners in Japan when I came across this article at ITMedia Japan (translated by Google). The huge story is about this American girl who has a kind of video blog where she speaks mostly in Japanese. Her YouTube videos have become insanely popular in Japan and she has a dedicated thread over at 2chan, one of, if not the biggest internet communities in Japan. The article even pays special attention to the fact she wears glasses!

According to the article, recently she made most of her content private due to attacks by some members of 2chan. You can find out more by watching her video from around the 5 minute and 30 second mark where she explains her actions in Japanese and also in English (in the first part of the video she talks about peace and not fighting, although only in Japanese).

Should you care? Well, you probably shouldn't. For me it was just a reminder on how far a foreigner can go in Japan, without doing anything particularly special. In this case, justifying a lengthy story on a big news site.

So why don't you brush up your Japanese, come to Japan, and make it big! Also, I reserve the right to sleep on the couch in your top floor penthouse (I'll try not to piss in the jacuzzi ).

Note: I came across this news post via the blog over at Samurai Coder:

A Girl on 2channel

A girl on 2channel. She explains what happend to her after one of her vidoes attracted 2channel users. She speaks Engilsh starting around 6 minutes from the beginning.

ITmedia News covered the story.

This is what happens in Japan. A scary country, eh?
This article suggests that the honeymoon might be over for foreign hostesses in Japan.

2nd note: To be clear, the girl actually lives in Hawaii from what I can gather, although her fiancé is Japanese. The majority of her audience is certainly Japanese people living in Japan though.

Old ladies with money! Actually, Japanese old ladies can be very nice sometimes! The ones that don't push in front of you at the supermarket that is.

I've been tempted to take a shot at Japanese again, but not for the aforementioned nefarious reasons. I just like the sound of the language and it would make trips to Japan a little easier on me (not that I've gone yet, but it will happen in the next 5 years).

Yeah, the sound of the language has always been something that attracted me as well. Btw, don't be concerned about having to know Japanese to visit Japan, most people don't know a single word. But, it does increase your chances of fun local interactions!

Oh, yeah, not knowing Japanese won't stop me from visiting someday soon. I plan on making a few trips there before I kick the bucket. Plus, there's an English speaker that I can track down to hang out with me and show me around.

I had plans of going there to become a stripper. The Choco Rooster they'd call me. I imagine the ladies would be throwing $1 yin bills in my thong. And I just be strutting and dancing.
^_^

But then I don't know how stripping is there. lol

Well it's a lot more hands on in Japan than most other countries. It depends on the club of course, but touching any part can be OK, apart from the sex organs. So you can expect to receive some nipple manipulation and some ass squeezing. Maybe even some anus fingering?

A guy I work with refers to this club he goes to as having 3 hour nomi/tittie-houdai for 6,000 yen. Basically, all you can drink and all the tits you can grab. So pretty different to anything available in Australia.

Hmm, sounds like fun. Also sounds like a divorce. I'll have to pass on participating in clubs like that.
