Engrish 101 - Part 7 - Nina is a dream space that packs girl's love

Posted 05-24-2009 at 10:32 PM by Chris_D
Engrish is the name sometimes used to describe the attempts by the Japanese to translate their own language into English, usually in written form. Engrish pictures are a dime a dozen on the net but I hope to make this a little fun for you guys.

First read the following Engrish:
Quote:
Nina is a dream space that packs girl's love. Such a cute play mind's being able to do is a privilege only the girl.
Now, try to guess which item, product, or location this Engrish was found on (no Googling!):
  • A maid cafe
  • A photo booth
  • A sex club
  • A beauty salon
  • A figurine shop
Then reveal the picture(s):

And finally, check your answer:

This was the curtain across the entrance to a photo booth. Sorry, just from the photo it's not entirely obvious.

Photo booths (known as puri kura in Japan) allow you to take funny photos with friends with amusing images overlaid. In fact, the new DSi has a mode that does exactly that.

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
In Japanese popular culture, Purikura (プリクラ, Purikura?) is either a photo sticker booth or the product of such a photo booth. The name is a shortened form of the a registered trademark purinto kurabu (プリント倶楽部, Purinto Kurabu?). The term derives from the English print club. Jointly developed by Atlus and Sega, the first purikura were sold in July 1995.
Here are some random Purikura photos I found on the net:

So, how did you go? OK, until next time!

Dude the first rule of Print club is that you don't talk about Print club.

The second rule of Print club is you don't talk about Print club.

Bah, I guessed incorrectly. That one was tough.

Figurine Shop is what I guessed. I would have went with Sex Club, but 1/2 of Engrish sounds like that.

Bah, wrong again.

My guess was the beauty salon.

I made the mistake of trying to make sense of it.
