.Something About Japan - Live Action Phoenix Wright?! Objection!
Some of you will be familiar with the video game series Sakura Wars (Sakura Taisen), about an all-girl acting troupe who just happen to also fight in giant robots. Most famous originally as an adventure game on the Saturn, it spawned sequels and remakes on the Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, DS and even as anime. I was quite a fan back in the day, buying all the games on the Dreamcast, even though I never got very far in them.
One of the most famous all-female acting groups in Japan, where women play both male and female roles, is the Takarazuka Revue, based near Osaka, not far from where I live. They do a mix of performances from both eastern and western works, including famous musicals such as West Side Story and The Scarlet Pimpernel.
So why am I suddenly posting about the Takarazuka Revue? Well, I was on the train today and just happened to see the poster for their latest show, a live-action adaption of Phoenix Wright! Phoenix Wright, called Gyakuten Saiban in Japan, is best known in the US as a series of adventure games on the DS, but actually started out on the GBA. So what would Phoenix Wright be like as an all-girl theater production? I'd sure like to know!

Sorry, I know the quality of the image is not so great. My excuse is that the train was swaying too much

Wow, live action Gyakuten Saiban could be really cool. I wish they got some men to play the male roles, though. Thanks for the photo...I wonder who requested that...
Let us know if you check out the production, Chris. |

Wow, nice find on the video Xerxes, kind of humourous. Still, that actress always seems a little creepy to me when she's made up in her male roles (I see their posters for different productions around all the time).
I hadn't heard of this production before, so I was pretty shocked to see that poster hanging down in front of me this morning. I'm pretty sure they only put the adds up on the trains overnight. I wonder if there really is that much fan demand for a live action Gyakuten Saiban? |

The hair was done excellently. She still looked very much like a lady. Doesn't fit Phoenix to me. I wonder what Maya will look like... O_o
The actress who plays her has to be ALL woman. |

I dunno, I hope so, but I doubt it. The woman who is Mia in the publicity shot is the one who usually plays the female lead rolls in all their productions. The other 4(?) nearly always play male roles, best as I can tell. So I guess one of them will play Maya?

Wait is it Maya who is the big breasted Lawyer who dies or the kid sister? Maybe I meant Mia? O_o

Hah, yeah you meant Mia. Unfortunately I'd say the one playing Mia (in the publicity shot) isn't overly well endowed in the chest department. Maybe you should send a complaint letter

I'm sure sending a bunch of women an angry letter about one of there actress not having large enough breast is considered very impolite in Japanese culture.

Heh, well I don't mind, just don't sign my name to it. I don't want an angry group of cross-dressing women coming after me
