Steep Learning curves make it tricky to play Game 23: IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946

Some games are much harder to look at in one day, especially if you don't have a lot of time to devote to them. IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 is one such game.

It is a flight simulator, with older, WW2 aircraft from a variety of nations. It looks pretty complete, and I think it could be a lot of fun, but there is a lot to learn about. I watched the first tutorial and was disappointed that there were a bunch left to look at, including taking off and landing.

I'll need much more time to devote to this game before I have a good feel for if it is fun or not. I will say that it isn't very good at getting you started quickly. Also, it doesn't seem like I can use my XBox controller on the game. I wonder if there is a way to get it to acknowledge my thumbsticks?

How about some tips from some Ace pilots? Or, is this even a game worth investing the time in to get good at? It looks like it would be, but looks can be deceiving.
