My life and thoughts.
Day 2 - Reading an Outline
Yesterday I found my trusty purple Trapper folder. It is nearly in two pieces as time hasn't been kind to the binding. It still holds its contents well enough though. Inside are designs long forgotten. I have maps from city to world level. I have lists of local lords, nobility, councils, kings, and even deities. I even have the first 2 1/2 chapters of an attempted Shadowrun novel (forgot all about that).
Today I'm taking a look through the one piece of material that I based this project on. A Second Sun novel outline. The outline is just into chapter six, so I have a long way to go on it. I may do some editing as I read it. My writing has changed slightly over the years, so I may not like everything I read from those many years ago. I'll give a short summary of the Second Sun universe below.
A brief overview of Second Sun:
The planet in this universe (I never got around to actually naming it) consists of twelve floating continents all orbiting a central magma core. The glow from the core never allows the edges of the continents to go dark. They are in a state of continually dusk/dawn (hence the Second Sun). Picture the Earth having chunks torn out of it. According to myth, this is exactly what happened when the overgod Uo became fed up with the squabbling of the demigods. He punished the main contributors of the massive holy wars with death. He then tore the planet asunder, leaving it in ruin. As additional punishment to the demigods, Uo created a magic nullifying barrier around the continent of Tecren. This would allow the people to focus on technology and forget about magic and, more importantly, the gods themselves.
This continent was my main focus years ago and where my current novel outline takes place. With magic being gone for over 300 years the people of Tecren turned to technology and moved into an era beyond the remainder of the planet with the inventions of steam power and gunpowder.
I could talk about the history of Second Sun for ages, but I'll leave it at this for today. I'm going to read through my story outline now and get a feel for this world once again.

This is an epic undertaking and makes me nostalgic for some of my old worlds that were abandoned in a half-created state from the long, long ago, in the before time.
Definitely stick with this! I am excited to know about this world and its inhabitants. |
