New Rig is a Go

Finally got my new system up and running very late Friday night (though, technically it was really early Saturday morning). Had some initial issues with the OCZ solid state drive. The first one died shortly after I put together the system over a week ago, and replacement required some not so straightforward firmware updates. After a long of fiddling around and with no small amount of help from the OCZ guys over at their forums I was finally able to get it updated and ready to go.
Loaded up Windows 7 and a couple games (EVE and Aion to start) and it runs like a dream. The SSD means programs load ridiculously fast and the new hardware (namely an i7 CPU and ATI 5850 video card) really do put my older system to shame. Can’t wait to get back into games like The Witcher with settings pumped up. Just crossing my fingers that the system stays stable for a long, long time.

Where did you get the instructions / download for your firmware update?
I still haven't put my rig together, but I went to the OCZ page, and it wasn't clear where to go to update the Agility firmware. (Not sure if you're running a Vertex, Agility, or other model.) |

I have a Vertex and the steps were pretty complicated. Unfortunately, I don't think it will help with the Agility drives.
Their forums are your best bet. But it's kind of a mess, I eventually gave up and just started a new thread. http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...play.php?f=233 |

Looking at your thread... So the problem you had was that you had to upgrade from the old 1099 firmware to 1.3, then to 1.4? Did they not have a bootable ISO for 1.3? (So you had to use a different boot disc and make a little FAT32 partition for firmware files.)
I'll have to check my firmware version. If it's 1.3, it looks like the 1.4 update is pretty easy. Same process as Vertex, just different ISO. |

Yeah, the update from 1199 I think it was required a jumper setting on the SSD itself and being hooked up to a running Windows machine to do the flash. Then as you noticed, there was no bootable ISO, but I was able to make a small FAT partition on a hard drive to load the drivers onto.
As far as 1.3 to 1.4, yeah, it's just a bootable ISO. Quick and easy. |
