Pretty much all you need to know about the upcoming MMO Fallen Earth is said in the first 5 seconds of the trailer you see above. It's rated mature, and bears the tagline: "Sick of ogres, elves, and pixies?" It also seems to be going for 'attitude' as much as 'atmosphere.'

The game itself is in closed beta at the moment, with no concrete word on when it will go live.

I take issue when companies try to sell you on things that "aren't your daddy's". Just because something is new, does not make it better.

Besides, my dad never played MMOs, so even 1999's Everquest "Isn't my daddy's MMO!"

It's not even new. We were doing FPS-style sci-fi MMO combat seven years ago. We even did a "No more elves" campaign two years ago (http://entry.neocron.com/news/nme/nme.html) (we didn't say anything about your dad though). ;)

Big yawn...they showed me nothing to get me interested and the add style is insulting at best. But hey, at least I know the developers are manly, right?

god, thats awful. it looks like an extreme softdrink ad.

cmon, list some features man... show us waht we're going to actually be doing in the game...

i am however looking very much forward to the game itself. a shame the marketing isn't doing it justice.

Yes, yes you do.

eh, I think it's corny, but the point of the ad is clearly to state "here's what's different about our game". And in the MMO market, that couldn't be more important.

After watching that vid I also want to eat Extreme Taco-Dipped Ranch Pizza Doritos and "Do the Dew" while listening to Nickleback.

i hate this kind of "hardcore" advertising and the kind of person attracted by this (think annoying CS kiddes) are not the kind of people i want to play with. It's also slightly patronising "your a dumb ass who doesn't understand that mmo's don't have to be fantasy so let us spell out to you that ours isn't and how cool that makes us for being different and oh so hardcore" and dear lord that ending tag line? how the hell did that not get shot down and stomped on?

I hope i'm not being overly insulting but i've seen a trend like this for a lot of mmos lately and it's really freaking annoying. If you want to stand out of the crowd why not just advertise based on what your game IS and what we can expect from playing it? 'cus this kind of trailer makes me dismiss a game out of hand... if you can think that something this stupid is a good idea then i can't hold out hope for the design of your game.

I actually liked the ad.

I fucking hate fantasy. I hate it. But WoW is so well designed I played to level 56 before I quit.

I like to fantasize about what a well made game without fucking trolls would be like. Or orcs. Or elves.

So this ad does reach some people. The "not your daddy's MMO" might be worn out, but seriously, so are dragons and elves.

ya but wouldn't you be able to see that it don't have elfs with the fact, well, the trailer shows none of them? do you really need them to point it out to you?

Trading in a one generic universe for another doesn't really sell the game to me. Treating me like a 12 year old doesn't either.

The game looks good from what they showed, but the advertising was a complete turn-off.
