I really like the look of this, my only concern is the number of characters. Ofter playing SC4 and SF4 It's pretty hard going back to 9 or 10.

I'm completely new to this (aside from seeing the gameplay on X-Play), and I never played Guilty Gear, so sorry if I'm dumb.
This is a combo based fighter, right? As opposed to STIV being a... I don't know, a more here and there fighter. Now that I have a stick, I'll have to keep an eye on it.

Limited Editions (http://kotaku.com/5233094/blazblue-limited-edition-is-very-blue-indeed) for PS3 and 360.The set not only contains a very pretty box and the game itself, but a 2-disc, 42-song soundtrack set and a bonus disc containing tutorials from the experts at Dustloop.com and Shoryuken.com. The video walks you through each character, showing you the ins and outs and delivering special tips for getting the most out of your favorite fighters.
How much would you pay for this much BlazBlue? That's the best part. The limited edition set is $59.99, the same price as the game alone. In fact, players who've already pre-ordered the game are getting a free upgrade to the limited version. If you've not pre-ordered yet though, you might want to get that done now, as the limited edition set is first-run only, with the second run consisting of the game all by itself, looking sad and lonely.http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2009/04/blazblue.jpg
Doesn't look like limited editions are listed separately on Amazon. They have the release date for both versions as June 30. So I suppose there's no way to guarantee a limited edition, just preorder and cross your fingers?

BlazBlue PS3 Version Unlocks Remote Play (http://www.onelastcontinue.com/9105/blazblue-ps3-version-unlocks-remote-play/) (One Last Continue)Getting BlazBlue next week? Got a PSP as well? If so, this bit of news might sweeten the deal even more; BlazBlue is one of the first PS3 retail games since (ugh) LAIR to support PSP Remote Play. The game, which released just a few short days ago in Japan and will be hitting store shelves next week in the United States, hosts a number of new features exclusive to the console ports; among these are new battle backgrounds, new music tracks, and new battle-ending Astral Heat finishing moves. Thanks to some observant gamers with the Japanese version of the game, we can now add PSP Remote Play to that list as well.

Remote play? I'm sorry, but with this game it seems like a bad idea. I get annoyed enough about lag when I play SF4, and that's just going from me to whoever I'm playing. This goes from them to my PS3 then out to me on my PSP wherever I am.
I'd love to see more games feature remote play (*cough* Disgaea 3 *cough*), but this isn't one I think it's a great idea on.

I love this game. The feline character will be my "first" character to start with. Problem is, they're all so unique that it's hard to choose who to start with.
Lesser note: As far as the bonus Blu-ray disc loaded with special features, it may as well been on a DVD instead. The matches in particular were grainy, and the menu layouts were okay.
Looooove that soundtrack though. :D

The bonus disk was actually *useful* though which was what I was pumped about. One of the first things I did after jumping into the game and playing a few rounds was to pop in the bonus disk and learn some combos. It's pretty sweet.

I'm not actually worried about being hardcore in BlazBlue, I've found it to be amazingly accessible. Its.. rather strange how easy it is to pickup. Sure there are just blocks, barrier breaks and whatnot, but really, just using the face buttons lets you do a hell of a lot.

Yea, I grasped the basic attacks pretty quickly. I think that's because I read the glowing IGN review before looking into getting it and the way the journalist described it made it easy to wrap my head around, what with the a, b, c, and d attacks and then everything else is just a combination thereof. I will say that I have yet to figure out how to use my barrier :o and I don't really do the special moves as so much as just use the ones that are mapped to the right stick. The basic attacks and stringing them together in certain combos seems to be clicking with me, at least for Noel. The large amount of time spent fighting Haku-man let me learn a lot about the basics, though.

Best advice: Watch that damn DVD. That thing is awesome. The Drive sections and strategy areas are incredible for helping you figure out *how* to use a character. The combo videos though are a lil overkill.

I played around an hour of it last night against my brother and a friend. This game is awesome, though entering the arena knowing no combos or even anything about the mechanics was a bit daunting at first. Heck, I still can't figure out proper combo chains for my character (Jin Kisaragi).
GT has reviewed the game and given it a 9.0:

I'm playing it on 360 with just the good ol regular pad. In Sf4, I had a few problems. In this game? No problems at all yet. IN fact, it handles awesomely. Theres only the four main buttons (Weak, Medium, Strong, Drive) so it fits well on the face buttons.
Game handles like a dream once you get into it.

Heya, I felt sort of like I stood you up last night. I was totally thinking "Hey, I'm going to get online and get my ass handed to me by good ole Lekon!", and then I got caught up in WoW. I apologize :(.
H.Bogard, for combos, you basically just do any order of A,B,C,D, but never the same letter twice in a row. So, for start, you could basically go in order, and then mix it up by starting with the reverse. Hope that helps a bit, and this might not apply to every character (since I haven't tried all of them) but it seems to be the basic combo mechanic.

Hmm. Maybe I'll have to put this back on my list.
I'm definitely not a fighting game buff. I've played Soul Calibur and DOA games, but don't spend any time mastering combos.
Some of the characters are more combo based, but most are more about how you use their Drives.
Example: My two fave characters at the moment: Taokaka(Catgirl) and Tager(Giant Guy). Tao's drive makes her fly in a direction while keeping claws out. So to do combos with her, I don't bother doing A-B-C-A-B- Downforward C, etc. I do something to take them off guard, fly at them, hold forward to land behind, fly up then back down at an angle or back to get out of a sword swipe, bounce off the wall, and go straight down to fly at them again. Tao's very... fast.
Tager's drive either is a shoulder charge, or a fairly long range punch that glows. Trick is: if it hits (even blocked) your enemy is now magnetized. Any attack Tager does that makes his hands glow, ie his drives, his upwards grab, his spinning piledriver, pulls the enemy towards the fist at a fairly fast rate. Those enemies that jump around are much easier to grab when the vist has a vacuum attachment!
If you can, get the Limited edition, that DVD really helps in understanding how different the game plays from others. If you can't get the Limited, I'd be there are places to find the DVD already. Just... don't watch the combo vids. Stick to basics/strategy/drives. The combo vids are all of the "Here's what you can do once you've played for a few months!" type combos.

This game looks (graphics-wise) incredible. I'm terrible at every fighting game except for Street Fighter 2 and maybe Tekken 2, but I keep hearing how accessible this game is.
I'll put it on my Gamefly queue and hope for the best. I really liked SFIV, but I've been burned by way too many fighting games in the past (basically the entire Soul Calibur series). Maybe someday I'll learn my lesson.

I enjoy it, most characters are easy to do cool looking thing, and many have cool unique mechanics.
I love how many of the characters are about space control and positioning, such as Rachel, Boobie-lady, and Carl.
I like the story modes as well, there seems to be a core storyline that has continuity to it.
Ragna is also pretty cool, he isn't just a tough Silent Guy, more like a goofball hero.
He is fun to play as, just a bit odd doing reverse fireballs and lifetap.

Had a lot of fun fighting Lekon. This game is amazing looking, the animation is so fluid and it just looks flat out gorgeous. It is easy to pick up and mash the buttons to a victory but that is not very satisfying to me. I am planning on watching the DVD it came with to really get myself into it.
Another thing of note is how varied the characters are, the range is off the charts. One more thing, forget what I said in an earlier post about it feeling slow... It can become furiously fast with the right two characters in the match just going all out.

Definitely need to do that. I jumped right into the story and it's kind of hilarious. I started off with the ninja of love and justice, BANG SHISHIGAMI!
I am getting used to his moves...sort of. It's cracking me up a bit because I am pulling off special moves and having no idea how I did so. Once I pulled out what looked like an umbrella and it did a bunch of damage, and later I unlocked his four seals and music started playing and I was zipping all over the place. Pretty awesome game so far. I'm really looking forward to playing as these different characters. That's one thing this game really has going for it...it's extremely refreshing and fun to see all these new characters with moves I've never seen before. Jin is definitely my Go-to guy. I'm also liking Taokaka. Still looking for a third. Bang, maybe?

Ryu, Mitsurugi, and all the other common fighters from long-running fighting series seem much more boring in comparison.
Even the most vanilla characters Jin and Ragna have quite big twists on things, as Jin does freeze attacks and Ragna has lifeleech. I love it.
I kind of like Arakuna, but I am quite hit and miss with him, sometimes I can do some massive beatdown on the AI with him, other times, I just flail and fail.

Okay, I think Bang is my backup character. I have a far better comfort level with him as opposed to Taokaka.
But I still Go to Jin for the good stuff.

So, I went all out on story mode last night during a bout of insomnia.
While the various stories are neat, what really sold me is the "Teach me Boobie Lady!" sections. You can get to them in story mode, then shift over (right bumper on 360) To "tips" they are little side stories meant to tell the history of the game. They are also insane.
"Seyector Seven" has one of the silliest ways of censoring a word I've ever seen in a game. I don't want to spoil but you guys need to see it.

Price is the same for regular as limited edition. The LE is basicaly the early edition, and comes with the CD/DVD for bonus stuff. If you can find a used copy, by all means, go for it. The DVD really helps though. (Its on the torrents already though, if you can only get the regular edition).
But.. the game is just awesome. One of the most fun games I've bought in a fair while now.

I'm having a lot of fun with this. One thing is for sure the Hell setting is no joke. I can easily beat SF IV on hardest... I can barely get 3 fighters in before giving up. Besides one of my fights with Lekon, my favorite moment was the first time I beat the final boss. After many failed attempts I just went nuts and beat the living crap out of her, then she starts to mount a come back, I end the fight with an Astral Heat finish by mistake. I was quite amused.

Is that why the screen looks a little pixelated? I'll have to fix that. I'm also not sure if it's the style of animation or if the framerate keeps dropping; I haven't noticed any slowdown, but some characters seem choppy when moving (or in a standing animation), like Bang.
Anyway, I only played a very small bit, but I'm not sure I like the FightStick for the game. Probably I just need to get used to it again, but tomorrow I'll try with the FightPad for comparison.
Also, the Coke my son tipped over onto my keyboard a couple days ago has just about solidified, making typing extremely hard; I need to buy another.

Really beginning to get into this game. Just a few thoughts though. I have been training myself against the CPU. I am near being able to beat it on very hard then its onto hell. There are a few characters that I feel need to be adjusted. I have been using Ragna throughout so keep that in mind.
1. V-13 is a broken character at least when controlled by the CPU on higher difficulties. One of the cheapest bosses I have ever fought... I would say worse than Seth. I have to employ a strategy of all-out offense to even have a chance, even then I barely eek it out.
2. Arakune is just plain nasty and the 2nd biggest thorn in my side. I broke down and ended up looking up strategies to beat him. The first thing I found out is that both him and V-13 are supposedly getting nerfed. (http://standinheaven.wordpress.com/2009/07/02/between-arakune-and-nerfing/) How true that is I do not know but we will see.
3. Jin is a cool character and fun to play against but fuck is he hard on the 2 highest difficulties. I find him to be just fine in player matches but under CPU control he is downright infuriating. His projectiles are strong and in close he's pretty tough so its a tough match when the CPU is getting its ass handed to itself and decides to keep range the whole fucking time. His moves are also very high priority at least against Ragna. He needs a slight tweak in my opinion.
These are the ONLY characters I have a really tough struggle with meaning I may lose over 10 time before getting the victory out. All the rest its a nice balanced fight that I may either lose or win.
So tell me what you guys think. Is this analysis totally offline or does it seem fair? I'm all for balancing the game out with slight advantages here and there. But when something plays cheap it annoys me.

JR, is that in Versus against V-13 or in arcade mode? As the AI DOES cheat in Arcade mode.
Arkune is a horrible bitch. If a player using him can start up a good combo, you are fucked. Even bursting out won't stop it really. Hell, the DVD even shows an unstoppable infinite corner beatdown with him.
I really, really, really hope that Blazblue will be a Living fighting game, with patches and balancing over time, instead of just leaving it as-is. As the game seems to be quite setup for ultra-hardcore players to do their thing in it.

Sure, no one cares, but I thought I'd post it anyway. (Aksys Games (http://www.aksysgames.com/2009/07/09/blazblue-1080i-errata/))
It has come to our attention that there is an unfortunate misprint on the BlazBlue PS3 Limited Edition box which indicates that the game will output a 1080i video signal. This is incorrect: BlazBlue only supports 720p (and lower) resolutions. If you have an older HD television (usually a CRT) which only supports 1080i, your PS3 will output BlazBlue at a resolution of 480p. Aksys Games sincerely apologizes for any confusion or inconvenience caused by this misprint, which should be corrected in the packaging for the Standard Edition of BlazBlue.

Oh, I need more practice. I rely too much on his drive attacks to close distance. Plus, I should probably be grabbing less. I mean, I know it's a devastating tactic, but I should be using it less, I feel.
It's just that grabbing is so FAST! And it's practically guaranteed damage! I am but a man!

I know there are guard breaks, I don't know how to perform them however. So be careful, you may go for the grab and get a distortion drive to the face.

Seems to me a distortion drive to the face would be an effective deterrent to further grabs when the opponent has enough heat. It's classical conditioning - pavlovian, even.
Grab breaks are performed by hitting the grab buttons just after the exclamation points appear above the character's head. According to the instruction manual, the throw button must be press just as your character is thrown. Like, just before damage is calculated. And no jamming the button - pressing too soon and you won't be able to escape.
And with that, I have verily sown the seeds of my own destruction.

I've just started playing this game and I am having a blast. I am beginner with a capital B, so I have been spending most of my time trying to do combos I find in the limited edition dvd. I've managed to do a couple of Jin's and have moved on to focusing on Litchi (who's combos are much more difficult btw). The game feels like Tony Hawk with all these button sequences I have to remember and execute.
When I find time away from training, I slowly completed the story which is wildly entertaining. It is like trying to solve the mysterious events surrounding the characters by piecing small bits of information you gleam off of each individual character's story. All of which culminate into an epic "True Ending" that raises even more questions (sequel damnit!)
Anyways, lots of fun; if anyone has any advice on how to get competent at fighting games that is different from the approach I am taking please let me know. Please note, I have no experience with fighting games (I don't even have to dexterity to do a double tap to dash consistently on the arcade stick).

Glad to see you're enjoying the game.
As far as tips - you're doing all you can do. Getting good at fighting games takes time, memory, muscle memory, and dexterity of the fingers. Be prepared to develop some calluses, that's for sure.
The best tips are thus:
1: Practice, practice, practice.
and
2: Watch the DVD.
You've done both, so keep at it, and you could be pwning noobs in no time.
Fair waring: Jin has garnered a reputation for being a "cheap" character, as he has a couple of high-damage combos that aren't too hard to pull off - in combination with a brutal distance-closer (the back-roll attack where he rides on a sheet of ice). There's strategies that work against him, but some people are still going to call you cheap for using him.
Me, I don't mind. He's a character, like any other. But I thought you should know.

So I got some good playing time in this weekend and this is the best fighting game I've played in a long time. I'm not even really a fighting game fan or anything. This game is just so pretty and easy to play. I'd love to get in on some of the matches you're all having if there's any room.
Spent most of my time just seeing which characters felt the best to me. Had a hard time finding characters I didn't like though. I think Rachel, Arakune and Litchi are just not fighters suited to my style. My favorites are probably Tager, Ragna and Noel. Just need to familiarize myself with their combos. Great stuff.

Pshh, he's only called "cheap" because others players don't want to use him and don't yet know how to use their chosen character. If you know the character, there are quite a few devastating moves each has.
By the way, no one likes Noel? I like her style, though I need to practice her combos.

Her combos can be pretty brutal once she gets a chain revolver going. People online use them pretty much to the exclusion of every other attack - except of course distortion drives.
Works for me, though - leaves her wide open for DDs of my own - and mine pck more of a punch than hers.

I think Tager is definitely my character. I'm not terribly good, so I only get one or two good combo's off in a match anyway. At least with Tager, one or two combos makes it look like I did pretty good as even his simple ones still take away a third of your HP.

I started off with Taokaka because I liked her "look" and found her to have some things in common with Wolverine from Capcom's VS games. Actually, Carl's marionette reminds me of an assist attacker from the VS games too. I haven't spent a lot of time with him, but I like those similarities. I still like Taokaka the best, but Rachel is starting to become an obsession with me.
She has this cool element of setting up traps with those electric pillars and the frog familiar. I think its really cool and different from anything else I've played in a fighting game.
We talked at length about the game on this week's Moofcast, for anyone who might be interested. Plus, I sprinkled in several songs from the soundtrack throughout the show. Follow the link in my sig if you wanna hear it.

Being a big anime fan, I am really loving Story Mode. It really hits all the typical archetypes and quite often will poke fun at them. All the characters have multiple endings and story branches, but if you get the clear end for the characters it actually creates a really intricate story, where most everything ties together. I'm impressed. Just have Carl left, then that will unlock Hakumen and V-13 story modes. Then I can start getting ultimate versions and finish off the astral finishes.
Favorite ending? Tager's story. Beat Taokaka, then Distortion Finish Bang. Pure ridiculous anime awesomeness.

Yes, but you're gonna need to be pressing more buttons. Just turn the speed of SFIV up about 400%, add the ability to do double-jumps, wall jumps, and air dashes, and a better soundtrack, and you'd have a rough training simulation of BlazBlue.

Oh, I remember. Long and hard I fought against this foe. Never giving up, never quitting. Hours on end.
If a man shows his true self in battle, then I know him as I know no other man. We have seen each other's full measure -- I'm sorry, I can't continue. That was a little too homo-erotic for even my tastes.
But I'm a lot better at Blazblue than I am at SFIV - mainly because my preferred character isn't totally gimped - in fact, all the characters (except Jin) are pretty well-balanced, while Vega - my main in SFIV - was, to use the scientific term, Clown shoes.

It turns out that using one of our TV trays (sturdy and made of wood) in conjunction with a table chair puts the FightStick at just the right level, so I take back what I said earlier. I was doing awesome combos that I couldn't pull off on command with a gun pointing at my head--not yet, anyway.

I think this is probably cause it's the Limited Version but i heard the perks are pretty good.
My Best Buy had 3 copies of the Limited Edition for $60 available a few weeks ago. I bought one of them. I bet the other two are still there. Also, they are going to release a standard edition in a month or so, so don't despair if you can't get the limited edition, more copies are on the way.

Have you guys been playing the story mode? Its so cool. I've really come to appreciate a few of the characters now because of it. For example, I used to think Bang Shishigami was the most generic looking dude, but now that I've explored all of Taokaka's story, I see Bang in a whole new light. He makes me laugh now!
And Rachel is a much more interesting character now that I've done all of her story as well. She's my favorite character. I think the voice actress and whoever penned her script really bring her to life in a way I didn't expect.
So cool. I just spent Saturday morning in bed doing story mode and it kinda felt like I was a kid watching cartoons again. :)

Best story mode is one of Noel's Branches where Litchi starts chasing her to dress her up in different costumes from Guilty Gear!

Is there a hard copy version strategy guide for this? I usually only get strat guides for fighting games, and even then very rarely, and I'd be willing to throw down for a decent BlazBlue one. It'd be the first I've bought in about ten years, but I can't seem to find one. :)

Oh, I have and appreciate that, but like the ease of a hard copy guide that I don't have to be in front of a TV to read, or can sit in my lap while I'm in practice mode. I also usually like the artwork and expanded story telling frequently found in them. There's a Japanese one I've found, but so far nothing in English.

Has anyone else played Score Attack? I find it to be the most frustrating mode of play. I couldn't get passed the 3rd character. I began to felt I was truly awful.
However after I went into network mode against some randoms, and completely owned the small room. It was probably that I just found terrible players, but I like to think my hour of frustration in Score Attack made me a better player.

Score attack's difficulty is harder than the toughest arcade/story difficulty in the game.

Oops. Been meaning to jump in here and say thanks for the invite on Saturday with Josh, Shodan, Lekon, and one other guy. Sorry! I can't recall the name. Also, I have to apologize about my headset. I have no idea what's wrong with it. If you noticed I was pretty quiet it's just because I didn't have the headset plugged in most of the time. I'm gonna blame it on the fish settling near the pipes in the Pacific. Damn fish and their wifi networks! Seriously though, I wonder if it was because I was using a SFIV fightpad.
Anyway, it was nice getting matched up with people from the boards. Totally got my ass handed to me most of the time but that's something I'm used to.
Have you guys seen Tager's rather... quirky ending? Let's just say it involves Jin. I'd rather not give any more away. I was surprised to see how whacky this game can be at times.

Wow man. Playing online will turn you into a better player pretty quickly. I started up a Player Match room titled "WelcomeBeginers" and had a nice afternoon of playing sub-level 10's for a couple hours. It was a lot of fun with some super fierce competition.
Dilly, I forget your full screen name, but sorry I had to run after just two matches the other day. I think my biggest problem with Nu is that even if you manage to block the combos, it still sends you across the screen. If her moves didn't have the knock back I feel it would be much more fair.

Wait a second. Is that actually possible? Wouldn't the Distortion Drive require 50%, the instant cancel another 50%, and then the Astral Heat the full 100%? Or is there something I don't know about the game? (Which wouldn't surprise me)

Some moves you can cancel without using heat (Noel in particular has several moves that cancel into other moves). However that'd still leave you with 50% heat, which means that there would have to be some exception for a character that allowed them to cancel distortion into astral.
Maybe Hakumen since he doesn't use heat? I don't know because I don't play him.

Yeah, you can set your charge bar to infinite 100% in training mode. It's handy when you're learning your distortions. I don't think you can do astrals in training mode though, because you can only do astrals after you have one match win and your opponent is down to 20% health.
DiBiddilyBop

I believe that in training, the bars don't regenerate during combos, so you can't actually chain together things that you couldn't train together outside of training with 100% bar.

It took me over an hour to win that match. I finally found some things that help. First, she always opens with the lightning and it tracks you, so if you rush her it'll hit you or if you dash back and use swords it'll hit you. Your best bet is to just block at the beginning of the round. From there, she's actually not all that tough unless the frog is out. Just keep backing up and if you catch her with your regular D attack (on hit or block), just keep spamming the combo (5DD, 4DD, 236D, repeat). If George XIII is out though, two ground blades will kill him and you can go back to using your D attacks. With that in mind, she should go down pretty quickly.

Ragna certainly has a lot of long combos, I haven't seen/heard of any infinite ones though. Ragna does crap for damage and takes a more than his share. He heavily depends on his drives for life support. Luckily they all have long startup times to them. Also never approach him in the air or you'll get an inferno divider to the face. My strategy against him, Noel and Jin is pretty much the same. Sit back, block, then punish. Those three have bad recovery times with which to strike for massive damage.
I'm in the same boat though, always looking for someone to play with. Send me friend requests and invites people!

I'll have to try that. My defensive play seriously needs some work, I know. Which is odd, because Bang has some great defensive pokes - those nails are brutal for escapes.
As far as Jin goes, I don't even play against him online. I exit the room as soon as I see that picture on the card. It's never a level 3 Jin, either - it's always like, 40.
EDIT:
Played some more ranked today, and I got the full-spectrum experience of Live.
I played this one guy - CLOSE match, came down to me winning with a finger's breadth of health. The dude actually went out of his way after to send a message, saying "Amazing!". I thought that was pretty cool.
Then I fought this bogus Arakune player - you know the type. Throw cloud, use the ground-shark move, spam projectile, repeat. Rocked his show two rounds in a row, going in for the finish, I hit him full in the face with a distortion drive - Bang's combo one, where he runs you into a wall.
Just in my moment of glory, game freezes. "He didn't." I think.
He did. Motherfucker quit just as I won. JUST before the points got tallied. I sent him a message, saying only: "Are you fucking kidding me?" Filed a complaint for cheating, and gave a negative review. His name's omgthepope32, if you guys come across him.
I find the quitting to be baffling i this game. Losing rounds does not lose you points or levels. You just don't get as much. It actually costs you around 11 points to quit, as the game would have thrown them your way post-match. In street fighter, I get it - you lose significant BP. But this game doesn't work like that. Very frustrating.
Also, had some fun fighting a dodgy Taokaka. They weren't bad, but they clearly didn't play against bang much, and I got them to a third health pretty quickly. You ever fight a Taokaka who's devoting all of their energy to avoiding you? Not fun. I had to throw up some speed nails to get in quick enough.

I main Tager. Everyone I play spends time running away from me. It gives the fight a very Resident Evil feel. Big demon looking dude chasing down his opponent so he can throw him up into the air, then smash his face into the ground.

I main Tager. Everyone I play spends time running away from me. It gives the fight a very Resident Evil feel. Big demon looking dude chasing down his opponent so he can throw him up into the air, then smash his face into the ground.
I love the Genesic Emerald Tager Driver.
As I recall, I didn't run TOO much. I mean, maybe a little, but...
Isn't the trick to beating tager getting on close and pummeling him with smaller attacks and combos? Unless you're bang. Then just use your drive attacks.

That can work, but the problem is the second Tager blocks anything you're getting grabbed into a 360A because of his invincibility frames. The trick to Tager is counter hits. Everything in his arsenal has slow start up frames except his neutral A, which only combos into his BNB if you're ridiculously close. Once you get a counter hit off, you get a full second of stun time to rush in and hit him with everything you have.
Unless of course you're V-13, Arakune, Carl and maybe Rachel. Then it's all keep away.

Or keep a fee frames away and poke. As I recall, you're pretty grab-happy. Good damage, but once people notice, it's easy to dodge.
EDIT:
Also, has anyone else noticed the prevalence of people choosing the black character palettes in ranked? Makes me feel like I'm fighting My chemical romance.

Yea, a lot of Tagers best combos start with grabs. I'm slowly learning to mix it up a little. I really do mean slowly though.
Also yes, I'd say 60% of the randoms I play with use black palettes.

Great video, Mike Z is a living legend for sure. Too bad there's no bad russian accent voice over on this video as lots of Real Soviet Damage was done.
I'm not sure how this hurts Litchi more than others, does she not have invincibility frames after the super flash? Why couldn't she do this to others?
I might have to start practicing my Hakumen after seeing this. His counters become much more viable after this. At least against people who don't combo into their supers.
Also that music is brilliant

I played on Live for the first time tonight in some player matches. I don't think I did too bad as I broke even at 4:4. I can see how Nu can be really annoying. The first guy I played used Ragna and then Nu. I beat him when he used Ragna, but couldn't do anything againest Nu. Maybe I should have used Noel instead of Bang.

Arakune can take a while to get used to, but he's a beast once you do. Genereally considered to be top tier (along with Rachel and V-13). Those damn bees! Though it might just be cause I main Tager and that's a really bad matchup for us Tagers.

Man, I had a GREAT night on ranked.
I won four matches in a row. One f them against a Jin, and one of them against a lv. 33 Ragna. I was pretty damn impressed with myself. My record for the night was 4 and 0. But then I got greedy.
"Surely," I quipped, "Five straight wins would be far more impressive. And as I seem to be particularly capable, another win should be a cinch!"
Then I played against a Taokaka a few levels higher. I wouldn't say they kicked my ass, but they definitely had a higher skill level. So I kept playing until I could end the night on a win.
The last match was against an Arakune, and it was an epic fight. The first match, I won, but my remaining health was not even visible in the bar. The second match, we were both down to bare millimetres of health - and had both barrier burst. He managed to win the day when I choked trying to input my distortion drive as he charged.
The third match, I was down to a thumbnail of health, and he was at half - but bursted. I managed to chisel him down to a dangerous amount of health, and proceeded to throw a distortion drive right in his face.
But so close was the match, and so great was his skill level (Very respectable Arakune play, he didn't spam bees - in fact, barely cursed at all), I sent him a missiv straightaway, saying the following:
"That was a truly epic match. Nicely done."
I have yet to get a response, but I bet the other guy was Charles Nelson Reilly. Either way, my bang play has gone sharply upward since my Bronchitis went away.

Epic fight sounds epic!
Bang is so awesome a character in the story, and his voice actor is brilliant (It's Lupin III!!) but I could just never get the hang of him. It's not from a lack of trying, but he's just not my guy. He has the best fight intros as well.
I managed to finally make it to the Unlimited Characters in Score Attack last night, only to soundly have my ass handed to me on a silver platter by Unlimited Rachel. The damn frog never goes away! He just stays there shocking me until I die.
We need more BlazBlue nights people. The power of science compels you!

European release will get new characters, moves? Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5337458/blazblue-coming-to-europe-in-2010-with-new-characters)The release comes as a result of publisher PQube and Zen United, a consortium of Japanese and Asian developers targeting the European market. The title will be fully localized, with support for German, Italian, French, English, and Spanish, so just about everyone can be confused by the twisted storyline of this lovely little fighting game.
...
The European PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release will feature bonus content, including a strategy guide and the game's soundtrack, and the announcement makes mention of "new gameplay content not available anywhere, like new characters and moves."

Just rocked some more ranked. Played this one dude who had a really good Taokaka. Beat my ass. Then we got matched up again, and I beat his ass.
This other guy I get matched with is showing Ragna on his card, but chooses Taokaka for the match. It was a decent fight, but I took him down. Then we got matched up again right after, and he chooses Ragna.
"Oh dear," Quoth I. "This is his primary. I'm going to get it with both barrels now. Playtime is evidently over."
I spanked his ass. HARD. I had lost maybe an inch of health the first match when he went down - and he died of chip damage from the Iron Umbrella. Then during the second round, it's going good, when Either my or his connection goes crappy and the game becomes lag-tastic. To the point you couldn't string combos because it wouldn't take that much input. This is great for bang, who is a single strike guy, but Ragna kind of needs his combos to be effective. He did pretty well, though, as I kept getting greedy and trying for flashy moves. Ends up I'm bursted with almost no health, and he's about the same health with no burst. From across the screen, his distortion drive kicks in- Carnage scissors. I can jump and dodge, I can simply block and feed him, or I can use my drive to auto-block and smack him upwards.
But I did none of those. I risked everything hoping the game would recieve the command, and went into my forward Distortion drive. I grabbed that daffy fuck right out of his scissors, slapped him around, and hit him into a wall. It was most satisfying.
Ranked competition must be getting worse, because I don't think I'm this good.
However, I did fight my first Tager on ranked in a LOOOONG time. He skullfucked me so hard my grandkids are going to be touching the back of their heads occasionally and say "Ow". Tager is a beast. Those combos... there's no escape but a barrier burst! And you can't burst because then one DD from Tager kills your ass! The horror...
The horror...

Things of note. Only 1 Tager and 1 Hakumen in the tournament at all. Hakumen lost in the 2nd round. Only 1 Jin and 1 Noel made it to round 2. No Ragna's made it to the 2nd round.
According to reports, place went nuts when any of the 'top tier' (Nu, Rachel, Arakune) characters were defeated. So much as to ignoring the main screen fights. Crowd was 100% behind Dora's Bang all the way until his defeat.

This is why Carl is awesome. You may look at this and think "just tech the throw! it's not that hard!" Well his 8D is air unblock-able, so you just get hit right back into him. If you can set it up the opponent has to barrier burst out of it. Except Hakumen can break out of it with a quick jab I believe.

So mad. I had a fairly epic battle against a Nu last night. He was lvl 55, I am 36. He absolutely smoked me first round, may have even been a perfect. Second round I pinned him down and corner raped him. It was very satisfying.
Third round, it's very close. We've both bursted, and we're both down to our last 10% in health. I jump in right above him and attempt a macho man elbow drop. He anticipates with a block, than I rapid cancel and Bust out the Genesic Emerald Tager Buster right as I land. Grabbed, twirled him around a few times, tossed his ass up in the air and then just as we're coming back down to the earth for some monstrous face smashing epicness ...
