Droplitz ($9.99)

This is Atlus's downloadable puzzle game. Kinda curious if it's any good. Will have to hope for a demo.

need a bigger mem card for psp - for RB tracks, FF7, and I'd play Brothers in Arms.

is Disgaea 3 anygood? I keep seeing add-ons released for it and wonder if its worth playing.

It plays like the other games in the series (which means it's a strategy RPG about ludicrous numbers and potential for grinding with a silly story), and looks like it could have been done on the PS2, so don't go expecting to show this off to your friends.

However, if you're cool with both those things, it's a really fun game. I'm not sure if the deluge of addon content is really worth it, but the standalone game is fun.

Nope. Not unless you know someone with a 360 to try the demo there, anyway.

That's pretty freaking annoying.

THANKS for the heads up. I <3 atlus titles.

Speaking of similar things, anyone liking Cross Edge? Would give me a reason to turn on the PS3 again.

It was okay as long as I could play it. Not great, but okay. But my PS3 crapped out, so now it's just collecting dust.

I've heard awful things about Cross Edge so far, it's not something I'd bother with. Honestly, NIS has been putting out a bunch of crap for some time now, other than the Disgaea games I'm pretty hesitant to look at anything they put out these days. Atlus may be hit or miss, but at least they put out their fair share of great games. NIS lately has been just about all miss.

Thanks for the warning, I'll try and snatch it from the bargain bin then. GrimGrim was just SoSo and since then I've been awfully wary of NIS releases.

I'd agree except for the Atelier games. I know they're not for everyone, but my wife and I have really enjoyed all the Atelier Iris/Ar Tonelico/Mana Khemia games. Except for the most recent Ar Tonelico, but that's because they badly botched the localization.

Didn't one of those have a game ending bug in one of the boss fights recently?

I don't want to hate on NIS, it's good that they put out some of the more niche Japanese games we wouldn't normally get from Atlus, as well as some of their own, but their quality has been pretty sub par lately. Even XSEED has been kicking their ass lately in terms of quality releases.

That was Ar Tonelico II. If you took too long to beat this particular boss near the end, the game would lock up. I suspect NISA has been having some difficulties lately. I'm hoping they can pull their shit together, but you're right, their quality has been slipping. I'll pick up Mana Khemia 2 because I liked the first one so much, but if it has issues like Ar Tonelico II, I think I'll back off from buying their games any more until I've got assurances of a return of quality.

Top off the sub-par quality of anything that doesn't have Disgaea stamped on it these days with prices that are usually much higher than most other games (esp. on the PSP) and you've got a customer who won't be rushing out to buy many, if any, more NIS games anytime soon.

Atlus, on the other hand. Mmm... Some of the stuff might be a little derivative, but it's still handled with care and the quality to crap ratio keeps climbing instead of reversing, which is fine with me.

I will say that the Atelier games (at least the first one) are pretty spiffy, though I didn't feel any need to play them after beating the first one. It was interesting to play a game where the primary relationships were between you and the shopkeepers and the story, such as it was, was truly secondary to finding crap and making cool stuff.

So, Droplitz... Any good?

It's also up on Steam, but for some reason there isn't a demo there either.

No demo = no sale, even for $10.

Droplitz, by the way, was developed by Blitz Games, makers of the Burger King games. It's also, IMO, not great. Don't buy it because you like the publisher; try the demo first on your (or a friend's) 360.

I'll try out the demo, but it sounds like a pass. There are already a ton of great, cheap puzzle games on Steam, so I really don't need to buy one that's only mediocre.
