I'm excited for it, it looks really well done and I look forward to enjoying it.

I'm usually entirely MEH about RE, since the first one, but I must admit to being somewhat intrigued by 5.

If Diablo is "Skeleton click, the game." The what would RE5 be?
For me, as a person without the sickly decayed rot of nostalgia for this series, I can think of dozens of games that I would rather kill zombies in. This year alone L4D will be occupying much of my life.

It needs to just come out, already.

So what you're saying is that you're writing off a game that you have no insight into or experience with. Excellent. Stay open-minded!

Although I was never to big into the series, RE4 really was some of the best gaming I did on my aging ps2. That said, I can't wait to get my hands on this game.

I want this......BAD! However, I also would like to see a Resident Evil 5 :Old School. RE5...a new story....but the way it used to be. Locked cameras and all. With updated graphics? Yes...this would be bad ass.

Hell no. If anything refreshed this series it was the transition from those painful fixed camera angles to the behind the back cam.

So co-op, never thought I would see that in a RE game (besides the light gun games).
Does anyone know if there is local co-op, or is it all online?

Well I, and I may be the only one, loved the old games, and liked the fixed cameras because it added that sense of not knowing what was on the other side of the wall. Some stuff would jump out and scare the shit out of you. I'm not saying I don't love the new stuff, but it's like it's an entirely different game now, just with the same story. Maybe I'm just holding on to the past like some Fallout fans.

So, while the graphics are quite nice, it's a testament to RE4 that this DOESN'T blow it absolutely out of the water.
Well, except resolution wise. RE4 wasn't pretty when you supersized it.
The split screen in the second video suggests local co-op. Also is it just me or does the invincible guy in the CG trailer remind you vaguely of Vamp from MGS?

Fantastic. I'm glad that a lot of the games I'm excited about still allow split-screen co-op. My boyfriend and I really would prefer to not have to buy two copies of the game just so we can play together.

That "split-screen" looked more like the feeds from two different TVs. I don't think there is co-op available on one console. I could be wrong, but I doubt they're willing to split the screen; and it would put you at a huge disadvantage if they did given how many infected mo-fos will be coming at you from all different angles.

Ah, shitters, you're right in that they look like they're feeds from two TVs. The top screen is aligned to the left, and the bottom is more to the right.

Although looking at that setup, I think it could work on a 60" screen or something. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I had to rain on someone's co-op parade after learning Pure doesn't offer split-screen action. It's only fair that my misery spreads like SARS.

Eh, it's okay. I'll be sad, but not having local co-op (or co-op at all) is something I'm used to from the other Resident Evils. So I guess it's not a tragedy or anything for me.
(Plus, it's not yet 100 percent confirmed, so there's still a tiny, tiny bit of hope. :()

I wasn't all that big on the RE series (although RE1 on the Gamecube was fucking scary, it still felt like an upgraded Alone in the Dark game)... until I ran into RE4. That game shot up into one of my Top 5 greatest games ever.
I so can't wait for RE5, and yet I'm also nervous as hell because I'm starting to worry if it's been overhyped.

Looks good, it's a shame it's still pretty far off though. I dunno if I like the whole co-op thing. I don't know much about it, but I hope it doesn't turn out like REZero where you had to use one person to go one way and another person to go another way and then the puzzles work out for each person to do something. I just didn't like that. RE is and should be a single player game. RE Online? Well we just won't speak of that game again....:(
edit: that video shows off the PS3 it looks like. Looks good so far.

Every time I see a video for this, the AI gets dumber and dumber. Enemies still walk circles around your character holding some crude inefficient weapon over their heads.

You see this all the time in games with a ton of enemies onscreen. You either have a small number of enemies with intelligent AI, or a large number of enemies with dumb AI. There are rare occurrences of overlap, but those are the two established patterns.

I attended the Capcom event on Tuesday and threw up a podcast about my experiences playing Resident Evil 5 and Bionic Commando here (http://www.the-horror.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3229) featured on Snow's blog (http://www.capcom-unity.com/snow_infernus/blog/2008/12/18/re_5__bc_multiplayer_event_recap) because he is a great community manager. If anyone is interested I will do a proper write up for the CoG tomorrow (exams made it an option, sorry guys!).
Also, if anyone has any specific questions I know probably more than I should about this game.

Left 4 Dead.
If RE wants to be survival horror game, it can give me slow, dumb zombies. Moaning here, grunting there and just always giving me an uneasiness about where I catch my breath. RE5 is as far from as you get. It wants to give me a fast-paced, white-knockle, twitch-response action shooter. Do not give me molasses and shit AI in such an environment.

After RE4, it's unwise to expect any flavor of survival horror from this franchise. :o

Well, having actually played the game I can say things get pretty damn intense. Way more so than RE4. I'm not sure where you are getting the "dumb and slow" AI from but I assume it is one of the dev kit builds where the guy is running around with infinite ammo and a weapon he doesn't have to reload. That makes anything look easy. Some parts of the game had me fighting five manjini and TWO of those chainsaw guys at once through narrow paths. That shit isn't easy. The goal isn't to give you a twitch shooter, that was Dead Space. The goal of RE5 is to build tension by getting you surrounded and always in imminent danger. The game would be about as fun as bunching yourself in the balls if every manjini jumped on you first thing.

I know. I said as much. You're only proving my point. The enemies are remnants and reminiscent of RE:Zero, 1 and 2 when the franchise was focused on survival horror.
What are you getting at?
