Kalypso Media announced (http://forum.kalypsomedia.com/showthread.php?tid=1411) that Tropico 3 (http://www.tropico3.com/en/), which is set to release on PC in September, will be coming to the Xbox 360.

In what was previously a PC exclusive title this release will see Kalypso Media enter the next- generation console market where they will be concentrating exclusively on Microsoft platforms.

Stefan Marcinek, Global Managing Director Kalypso Media Group said “The Tropico 3 release on the Xbox 360 is a first for Kalypso and marks the beginning of an exciting entry into the console market. Throughout 2010 Kalypso Media have plans to release four titles in tandem on both the Xbox 360 and PC. Through this we will be able to demonstrate our strong PC Line up with new multiplatform games and this gives us some great opportunities for the year ahead.”

There's no word on whether or not PS3 or Wii versions will also be made at a later date. The wording of the press release sounds like Kalypso will not be spending resources on developing games for the other two consoles for now.

The more Tropico love, the better.

I know PC-to-console ports of strategy games haven't got the best track record, but if Tropico 3 controls anything like the original, I don't think it would be too difficult to map controls to the 360 pad.

I may have to get this for the 360. The kids would love to play it and I'm not sure if my PC could handle it well enough anyway. The screens look gorgeous.

Please don't dumb down the PC version.

I have no problem with this, as long as the game keeps its quality on the PC version too. (No Dumbing down)

I'll still get this on the PC anyways.

I loves me some Tropico. I don't know how it will be on the 360 though. I hope its not as 'dumbed down' feeling as Colonization was.

(Colonization, the new one, was only for PC, maybe Mac, AFAIK.) Civ Rev was a totally new game made for consoles. Tropico 3 seems to be a port, especially since it's releasing the same day (or at least month) as the PC version.

If Tropico can be half as addicting as Civ Rev was for me i'd be interested in this.

Yes, Civ:Rev. The Battles were totally lame. Airplanes and Boats cant become verterns?! Dudes with Muskets can somehow win against bombers?!?

I thought Civ:Rev did a great job of streamlining the best parts of Civilization into a game that a console could handle. If that's dumbing down, I'll take it.

To be fair, the Spearman vs Tank syndrome is something that has always plagued the Civ series. Civ IV (especially Beyond the Sword) made it a lot more rare, but it still happens in my games.

Edit: And as far as I understand it, the 360 version of Tropico will be a fairly straight port like Sacred 2 for the console was.

No doubt. The question is if the PC version will be simplified to make it easier on the console port.

Never got a chance to play the originals but my friend loves them. I'll have to check this out when it drops. I wonder if the PC version will be consolized. My friend would hate that:D

Here's hoping the PC version doesn't suffer whatsoever, although I doubt that it will this far into development.

I can't see this taking off on the 360, but you never know.
