Looks like it isn't just me who has a main and 3 alts. :0)

The problem is that every damn class I play is fun. All of them. I haven't really tried any of the proper caster classes yet, but all of the others scream PLAY ME! And they are all unique enough to be interesting. The Ironbreaker and Black Orc share some similarities, as do the Witch Elf and Witch Hunter, and so on, but they all have their own style. This game may force me to level many, many alts.

How does the character customisation pan out in WAR? Those screens look pretty awesome, but I've always been worried that the class armour thing would lead to a lot of identikit characters.

Yes and no. Many armour sets are similar, but the ability to dye armour, and hang your trophies on it, means that people do look different.

I can see that, but my impression is that the game wants you to earn distinction. The staged process of acquiring new types of parts like shoulder pads, unlocking additional trophy slots as you level, you can even tack on a last name if you are (level 20? I'm not sure). The colors really do help change your look, and helmets (and maybe 1 or 2 other things) can be not displayed if one feels like it.

I'm at low level (11 as Black Orc) so I don't know what sort of variety I can expect later in the game, but I anticipate that the number of comparable armors with different styles increases with character rank. Also I've noticed that different-named armors of the same physical shape can come with different default colors, some of which you can't dye from a merchant (but can still change if you want).

Hotcod
10-12-2008, 11:29 AM
i'm not saying there's not some different stuff and i really like the idea of your look being altered by achievements but compared to other games the rate of gear turn over is rather low and there is a rather small pool of physical looks during the early levels... can't comment on later. I mean it's not a really big deal but i would have liked to see just some more looks... i mean i've found my self picking cooler looking things over slightly better bis and pieces i have beacuse, well, there cooler heh

I'm in the same boat as a lot of people here, with multiple characters in the teens. The problem is that right around level 18-20 (just as you enter T3) the game really becomes a grind to get XP. My character starts advancing so slowly that I have more fun going to a different class.

I really want to get a character to end-game as the PvP there looks like a blast, but not at the expense of fun.

That's one of the advantages of having a Collector's Edition face, but yes, I have to say that his Zealot looks surprisingly badass.

Regarding Witch Elfs, I keep reading that they are supposed to be my ultimate nemeses and eat Witch Hunters for breakfast. I am level 15 and the same people keep saying that Witch Hunters are horrible in Tier 2... Yet so far all the Witch Elfs Renart met, no matter how many levels higher, were easily dispatched using a combination of Fervor and Burn the Heretic. And that is assuming I do not get a drop on them. I am beginning to gather empirical evidence that a lot of the whining is from the people who cannot play the game. The Witch Hunter and the Witch Elf seem to be perfectly balanced. I find my ranged executions to be most useful.

Nothing revolutionary, a large melee hit that reduces healing by 50% on the target for 10 sec or something. And actually, it looks like even though it's listed as level 20, it requires 9 Mastery points to get and you don't have that much at that point, so I'll have to wait a bit longer.

Usually when I post in a forum I get a lot of Witch Elf hate :)
It's really not all that much of easy-mode as people seem to think it is. To really be any good at all I need a healer half watching me, and I need to stealth long before any Order at all knows I even exist. Also, I don't get the whole stab-don't-move-or-you-die move until 20, so I can't really smite casters quite yet unless I get them alone.

And I can beat a Witch Hunter of the same level one on one about half the time, it's a fair fight.

Anyone who "hates" melee DPS is playing wrong. Melee dps, even the WE's/WH's are easy kills. They have to be right next to everyone, they are easily rooted, they are easily focus fired, and casters are easier to keep alive than a Melee DPS. ATM, they need some real tuning to be brought up to speed with everyone else. In keep fights, the WE's are just not worth the effort to heal. Let em die and rez 'em, otherwise they are a huge drain on the warband.

From the standpoint of a shaman, WH's are just weak. In the last train wreck of a scenario I was in with my shaman. Even though we were getting stomped. The 2 kills I got that entire time were two different WH's. They just don't bring anything to the table aside from stealth. Which isn't that amazing anyway, it's easy to see through.

Eh, it's just there's this myth that Witch Elves are much more powerful than Witch Hunters, propagated by (I am assuming) WoW Rogue players who keep forgetting about ranged executions. Witch Elves have more raw damage but spread over much more direct hits. Witch Hunters have pretty neat damage over time skills and extra defences that allow them to control the battlefield to an extent. Personally I love the flavour, the look and the playstyle of the Witch Hunter.

Actually I just love the Empire in Warhammer. I deleted my level 10 White Lion and made a potential fourth character: a Warrior Priest. I feel like playing a healer, I love the look of the Warrior Priest plus I keep getting WP items, for some reason.

If you're playing a Tank, then yea: MDPS are easy. If you are a healer, RDPS, or a MDPS, then fighting a MDPS is a death knell. WE is the one class that I lose to as a WP. I have stalemates with Shamans, Zealots, and DoKs, but if I ever encounted a WE, I am a goner.

Except I'm a Shaman? I can count on one hand the amount of times anything less than 4 Melee DPS took me out without a BW doing most of the damage. I can also keep people healed fairly easily against 1-2 Melee DPS.

I played an archmage stacking toughness and cant survive for long vs 1 MDPS. Your not thinking of tanking ironbreakers or swordmasters are you? Of course order may have it harder since witch elves get their heal debuff at 9, while witch hunters get it at 35.

Yeah, it's really easy to confuse a Swordmaster or Ironbreaker with a Witch Hunter.

Detaunt, detaunt, detaunt.*Witch hunter pops stealth* stare at him until silence drops>Bubble>detaunt>greener n' cleaner(Ailment cleanser)>Gork'll fix it (single heal+hot)> Yer not so bad(180 AP leech)> Stop yer bleedin' (HoT) dots like mad with insta big heals.

All the while you should be jumping around like the biggest idiot you've ever seen.

However, I do die more often to level 30+ WH's in the few encounters I've run into them. That could also just be because of the level difference and not the 50% heal debuff though. Depending on my morale loadout it can be a bit harder or a lot easier.

I've derailed the thread a bit too far now. :o

Yeah, I meant to ask a Shadow Warrior: what's that skill that makes you fire a bunch of arrows at the same time? I was playing in the Phoenix Throne scenario and a bunch of SW kept using it. You hear "tchak-tchak-tchak" and a dozen of arrows fall on the the enemy. Any thoughts? (I have no idea what level HotCod is).

The thak-thak-thak should be the ballista up on the hill near their spawn area. It rains down clusters of bolts doing decent AoE damage and knocking people down.

Finally got around to getting a screen of Moggogghat. Here he is in the closest I could get to guild colors, with new Boar Head staff!
