Ever have something so basic ripped away from you, you never really put much thought into how it affected your day?

My right click on my mouse no longer works.
This makes playing WoW feel completely foreign (Right click was essential in the way I walked, swam, flew and fought), StarCraft, I can't use the internet as easily (CTRL C and CTRL V arent as easy as right click copy/paste, to me).
I can't right click individual torrents to start/pause them.
My notification area with iTunes and my messengers is now almost worthless to me.
ETC ETC ETC.

So, post about a similar bullshit experience :D

My arm and my foot. Both have been in casts and/or tight medical bandages for about 20 days each. (not at the same time)

Stupid ass automatic door lock button broke off, and all of the doors unlock when I put it in park...

Being happy.

Oh, and the tiny ass rubber washer that held together one of the arms within the mechanism for the driver's side power lock on my truck. Now I have to manually lock and unlock the door like I'm driving some 1970s Gremlin! How provincial!

...now you went and made me look like a whimp saying my right index finger. :o

What the hell are you doing that is causing you to be injured so frequently? I am reading that correctly? Two different injuries?

It's amazing how important the tiniest part of your body becomes when it's been dislocated and juts off of you at an unnatural 90-degree angle...

as my pinkie toe has done twice. Painful as hell, and disrupts everything.

You think that's bad? If you remove your big toe, you wont be able to walk right forever unless you get a big toe cast. That's how essential your big toes are for walking normally. (Thankfully it didn't happen to me)

There's no story of any interest. It happened on two separate occasions, since the first time you do something like that (sprains, dislocations, and the like), the easier it is to have it happen again.

BANG...popped it out on the corner of a door.
BANG...did it again another time.

Boring. :)

I'm a gullible man.

It happened in Tijuana. I tripped over the hooker's corpse on the way out of the hotel room, dislocating my toe.

Thankfully, my bottle of booze didn't break.

The second one? Now THAT is a doozy. ;)

When buttons stop working for no reason is the pits. I know what you mean. I just get so frustrated. People's brain not working from time to time also piss me off.

Half of my Saitek Eclipse keyboard doesn't work. I had to use one of my PS/2 keyboard which sucked. Thought it was time for an upgrade to the Saitek Cyborg. It's one sexy keyboard...

I've gone thro a lot of headsets. The wiring just doesn't like me. It'll last for a while since soldering helps but the chip board can't exactly take a dozen re solders.

I lost the left arrow off my keyboard. I can jab it with my little finger though, just lost the actual key. Doesn't really warrant buying a new keyboard yet.

My MP3 player.
I never realized how much I loved the thing until I had to use public transportation and walk through town without it.
It cuts me off from the world and means I don't have to pay attention to all the crap going on around me.

Also, I've just had all the electrical wiring in my house redone, and they had to cut the power for a whole day. That was a big one.
I spent the whole day reading through my old White Dwarf magazines. Made me want to resubscribe.

My beloved Razer Copperhead just started freaking the fuck out. Whenever I click the left mouse button, anywhere from one to six clicks will register. You can imagine what this does to my gaming, let alone any attempts to do some design work.

I need a new mouse, but I'm not quite to the point of committing the money yet.

Not recently. But my old Chrysler New Yorker's power window on the driver side stopped working. It was a bitch to do anything like getting fast food or doing my banking at a drive through. I had to open my door, reach around... it was just a pain in the neck.

Also I had my cable shut off a couple times. Ya never realize how much you rely on the internet till it's not there anymore.

My old electric kettle. When that thing broke, we really learned what it means to rough it like the pioneers did, and it wasn't pretty.. Sorry, old feller -- I should have told you how much you meant to me when you were around.

This new one kicks its ass though, and it's been like a brother to me from the minute we brought it home.

Toe dislocation? Try a knee cap. THAT is fun, particularly when you get to spend a good chunk of your summer vacation stuck on the couch with a massive brace on your leg.

Ooh nasty. I dislocated my left elbow once. I've broken a lot of bones in my body, and various other serious unjuries, but that hurt the most.

EDIT: And since I've been on the master cleanse, I can literally take the thread title to heart.

I consider mouse technology to be down fucking pat.
It pisses me off to buy new peripherals, especially when decent quality ones aren't exactly cheap cheap.

I can afford it, but I'd rather not, y'know?

Wow. Injecting some gravitas into the thread.

I would have to concur. Though our situations were different, I think once you get divorced you see things you just couldn't (for whatever reason) while in the midst of the marriage. One of those things is what you took for granted in your spouse.

Cheers to you, James. Cheers.

Nothing compared to losing a loved one or family member... but forgetting how to walk after having your foot and ankle in a cast for four months, that was interesting.

I kept picturing that I was going to triumphantly strut out of the doctors office after they sawed that damn thing off, but afterward I got up and took one step and almost fell on my face. So they wheeled me out to the car in a wheelchair and I still had to walk with my cane for a few days, and it was about three weeks before I got my natural stride back.

My parents.

Also, running water. I went to university in a small town in south africa, so it wasnt incredibly uncommon for us to have no water (it happened once or twice a year I think). You can live without electricity, but not even having the water to flush a toilet or have a shower is by far worse.

My right arm. The thing has been damn near worthless since I had surgery a month ago. And I'm right handed.

Also: Red blood cells. When they did the pre-op blood work they found I was acutely anemic. Only have about 2/3 of the red blood cells that I'm supposed to have. No wonder I always got winded when trying to run and work out. Now I get to start all the test to find out what's going on with that: Marrow, spleen, internal bleeding... The joys of modern medicine!

A pain free day.

I was in a car accident a few weeks ago...nothing major, but enough to completely lock down my neck and upper back. I have never been one to get headaches, but had one nonstop for about a week. They have been wearing on me and make it hard to be in front of a computer or TV for extended periods. I have been going to the chiropractor, but I have a feeling it will be a few weeks before I am back to normal.

I was in your situation, and followed it almost immediately (two days later) with a backwards fall into a shitton of ice.

Ibuprofen, but be safe with it.
I took about 6 pills a day for three months, really really really thinned my blood.

I don't know if this counts, but when I bought my car I opted for power windows instead of manual.

Fast-forward to now - the motor inside both the driver's side and passenger's side front windows are blown and it's not worth spending the money to fix. So now when I want to go through a drive-thru, I look like a moron 'cause I have to open my door instead of just rolling down the window.

Why didn't I just get manual windows to begin with?
