Yeah, this is sad but true (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/10/starcraft-2-to-be-released-as-a-trilogy/).
Rob Pardo, executive vice-president of game design at Blizzard announced that the campaign version of the game will be a trilogy, each part focusing on a separate race.
Terrans - Wings of Liberty
Zerg - Heart of the Swarm
Protoss - Legacy of the Void
Update: Yes, you'll have to buy separate discs. According to Pardo, "It's a separate product. look at the next two as expansion packs, but will have the feel of stand alone products." Meaning yes, we'll be charging you more money.
The potential upside of this is that consumers will get access to StarCraft II earlier than they would if all campaigns had to be included in the game, but I fear that this is just Blizzavisions way to collect a little extra coin off of RTS fans. StarCraft II is the kind of game that doesn't deserve this kind of treatment.

Not cool at all. I'm hating this trend of breaking up games or submitting updates shortly after releases. Grr.

I agree, SC2 does not deserve to be cut up like this. The second two discs better be reduced price, or else it really does make it look like they're grabbing for more money.
And really, StarCraft was able to have 3 full campaigns on one disc, why couldn't they keep it all together instead of parceling it out like this. Keeping it all in one package is way more desirable than this split. I know I'm gonna wait until there is the package with all 3 discs in one.
And does anyone know if each disc is an expandalone, meaning each disc does not require the core install? If it's an expandalone, that's three times the installation space for one game. W40k: Dawn of War ballooned from ~2 gigs to almost 17 when one expansion that required the core game, and then 2 expandalones all installed at once.

On the one hand, that really sucks. On the other, I'd like to have the game on my hard drive sooner rather than later, so... I guess I'll deal with it.
Hopefully it won't be THAT much more money than a single package would be.

Money grab. But Blizzard knows blizzard fans are the right suckers to hook in with it.

Well that sucks...the original came with all 3 campaigns.

I'm actually going to give Blizzard the benefit of the doubt until I see the pricing. Blizzard has the WoW cash cow providing them more money than they could ever know what to do with. I don't see why they would gouge their loyal fans for a relatively small amount of money (relative to their monthly income). Maybe they really are just trying to get it out to the die-hard fans faster.

I know the inherent cynicism of the internet will see this labeled a money grab.
But I'd rather the game had one great campaign rather than 3 instantly forgettable campaigns like the first one.
So I guess as long as the campaign is good and they can keep a high level of quality in the other 2 as well, then I'm ok with it.

Yeah, it will be nice to get one-third of StarCraft II sooner rather than later, but how much more will we have to pay for the complete game? We'll see...

It's possible that they could cut the price by dividing the campaign into three parts like this. Something like $15 for each campaign would be a steal, but it's hard not to worry that StarCraft II will be given an unnecessarily high total price. Again, we'll just have to wait and see what Activision-Blizzard decides on.

Hey, as long as all 3 campaigns are long enough to deserve money and equally as epic, I'm all over it.
If they all are short and/or suck, then I will not be as happy.

Allright, I can't merge this with this thread with the news thread (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=966) w/o screwing up the story, so I'm going to close this one and direct all further convo to that thread (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=966).
