You know what this makes me want to do? I now want to type Obama and fly into Scribblenauts.

At E3 Obama wasn't in Scribblenauts. :( Doesn't mean he won't be in the full game, but likely not, since it's a game where you can kills stuff.

I was just watching Nightly News and NBC received a letter from PETA condemning Obama's brutal attack on annoying insects. No joke.

Hah! My first thought after the clip was, "I wonder what PETA thinks of this?"

Yeah, I wasn't sure what was more disturbing, the fact that PETA actually felt the need to respond about a fly being killed, or the media's reaction - I saw a compilation of news reports on this (the kill, not PETA), and seems like they need a collective change of shorts afterwards.

I can see this quickly turning into something like Bush's shoe dodge, complete with Flash games. They were both amusing, I'll grant - so I don't mind seeing it mentioned here - but it just seems like the news should have more important stuff to worry about. And, for that matter, so should PETA. I don't know, just my two cents; carry on. :D

The media reaction/coverage on this is pathetic. Okay, so he swatted a fly, let's move on now, shall we?

PETA wishes Obama hadn't swatted that fly (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090618/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_obama_dead_fly) (Yahoo/AP)PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.

"We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals."

...

Friedrich said that PETA was pleased with Obama's voting record in the Senate on behalf of animal rights and noted that he has been outspoken against animal abuses.

Still, "swatting a fly on TV indicates he's not perfect," Friedrich said, "and we're happy to say that we wish he hadn't."

ROFL

Charlie Brown said it.

I think we should give PETA what they want: Use PETA members for meat. Seriously! They obviously hold animals at a much higher importance than other people (there's a difference between animal rights and being a vegitarian and outright zealotry) so why not donate themselves to solve the meat shortage? Win Win!

In PETA's defense, they were approached by media outlets for a statement, they did not thrust themselves into the limelight on this one. From their website: (http://blog.peta.org/archives/2009/06/obama_and_the_f.php)

Believe it or not, we've actually been contacted by multiple media outlets wanting to know PETA's official response to the executive insect execution.

And from a follow up: (http://blog.peta.org/archives/2009/06/obama_and_the_f2.php)

We don't condemn President Obama for acting on instinct. When the media began contacting us in droves for a statement, we obliged, simply by saying that the president isn't the Buddha and shouldn't be expected to do everything right—if not for that, we would not have brought it up. It's the media who are making a big deal about the fly swat—not PETA.

What would you expect them to say when asked for a statement? Although PETA try to create publicity I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt here and see this as the media actively seeking out a "that wacky PETA!" story.

Hm, you may have a point there.

The Media are the root of almost all problems anyway :P

This just proves he's Satan. Only Satan could swat a fly with that kind of precision.

The look of concentration before the kill.

I am unimpressed that no Secret Service dived on the fly though.

Indeed. This administration's protectors are sadly failing at their jobs.

Personally, I was more impressed by Bush's dodging of a flying shoe. Flies are everyday things, but a disgruntled man throwing shoes at you? Gotta be on the ready for that shit.

There's dodging something thrown at you and there's ninja bitchslapping an annoying bug that is flying around.

Funny, but not really newsworthy.
