So some months after EGM died, the publisher decided to send out issues of Maxim to subscribers, along with a note that one can instead opt for a refund for their remaining subscription.
I read this (http://kotaku.com/5291717/egm-subscribers-getting-maxim-as-replacement) today, and sure enough, there it was in the mail when I got home. Maxim isn't exactly...the kind of publication one wants to receive without warning. Couldn't they have just sent out postcards, check here for refund, here for magazine of your choice? And I assume they sent this out to the whole subscriber base, which isn't all adult males.

Why couldn't they have chosen Playboy instead?

There's probably a fair number of kids that had EGM subscriptions, Maxim doesn't seem like a good choice.

It has no nipples.
But EGM was read by a fair number of people with taste, thus Maxim doesn't seem like a good choice.

You mean a postcard with popular gaming websites listed on it?

I'm guessing Maxim paid them to be the replacement magazine.

You can easily dislike the magazine, but this phrase I do not understand. Without warning?

I had like 2 or 3 years left on my subscription when the old EGM (since a new one is coming) died. I have yet to see any magazine supplement my subscription.

Heh, for GFW they pushed me off to PC Gamer. And I think their database as broken, since they've continued to send me issues long after my subscription ended.

Ugh, I can just imagine what the conversation with my wife is going to be if Maxim shows up in the mailbox with my name on it. Time to make a pre-emptive phone call.......

And there are younger kids that had subscriptions to EGM bought by their parents/aunts/uncles/whatever. The parents of those kids might want some warning that a Maxim is coming to their child.
