So how about that Season 5?
So far I love it. Not quite as many laughs as Seasons 2 and 3, but the ones that are there are real gut-busters. Dwight is quickly becoming my favorite character.

So far it's much better than Season 4, which is relieving. Episode 2 didn't really have a ton of laughs, but I was still entertained by it. I thought the seasons premiere was one of their best episodes overall though.

Jim talking about BSG and trying to get a rise out of Dwight was pretty hilarious.

This is happening just now?
Still think the British version is better, but I would.

I'm enjoying this season, the opener was amazing, but the second episode bored me a little bit.
Apparently, a bunch of writers from The Office are working on Ghostbusters 3. This fills me with great joy.

Holly, the new HR rep, is just like Michael. This is why a relationship between them will utterly fail. But man, it would be hilarious
And last night's episode was hilarious because it's true. Having to sit through a thing about ethics, but actual ethics things are never discussed is so painful.

This is the best news I've heard all year.

That was my favorite part. "Something about Dumbledore Calrissian who needs to return the ring back to Mordor." LOL! Man, that was awesome. And when Michael got emotional and tackled Jim at the beginning after hearing about Jim and Pam's engagement. I couldn't stop laughing.

This episode's harassment of Dwight was the funniest yet. I love the dynamic that Jim is above Dwight now. I think it works better than when Dwight thought he was in charge.

I think the best part this season is how Ryan is right back to taking everyone's shit again, if anything even worse now that he's the receptionist.
The Jim harassment of BSG was fucking epic though.

I want to see Ryan and Kelly back together, because their dynamic was absolutely hilarious.

The only thing I don't like is that, at the end of last season, it looked like everything was going to go to crap for everyone, and they fixed a lot of it really fast.
I actually expected Jim and Pam to break up this season.

I insisted to every one of my friends that they would break up this season, and the finale would have been the proposal.
I now owe several people a lot of money.

I just got into the Office a month or so ago, and after watching the entire series within a week or two, I'm actually kindof enjoying the excitement of waiting for a new episode. Also, I love that the writers haven't fallen into that trap of breaking up the people you want to see stay together "just because it makes good TV!"

I'm definitely enjoying the new season. Lots of laughs. Hopefully they keep this up for the rest of the season.

I disagree. The UK Office was about life being horrible, and while I don't expect the US version to be the same, I would like some aspects to survive. It wasn't cheap will they/won't they in previous seasons, it was watching two people who definitely should be together never, ever get together.

Yeah, that's what I feel the US version is lacking as well (even though I love it anyway).. it's just all a bit light and 'zany' when it could really use a healthy dose of reality once in a while as well. As an example -- the birthday episode in the UK version was just so.. bleak (yet hilarious), that it ranks as one of the most affecting episodes of sit-com I can ever remember watching. Brilliant stuff.
As for "watching two people who definitely should be together never, ever get together." ...
... Christmas specials 1&2 -- you should watch them

I'm aware of the Christmas specials, but those happened way after the series was over.

So far so good. I do like (last episode) how Michael can be a serious boss when he needs to when he ordered everyone to finish their training... even though it was almost 5 and Stanley was packing up.
My fave episode was from season 4 when Stanley tried to get more money and Michael fake fired him.

Mine is still Phyllis's wedding from Season 3.

Separate episodes, but Stanley is one of the best characters on the show. :p

But on Pretzel Day? I love pretzel day.
I think the show's weakest character is Oscar. The only thing he does is allow Michael Scott to say insensitive things about homosexuals.

I'm upset that I don't have time to keep up with the show; a guy who graduated from my college and went on to do a lot of TV work is playing Jim's big brother in at least one episode this season. That dynamic just has to be hilarious.

I don't think Oscar is a weak character. He seems like the cool rational person in the office. He might not be the funniest character, but he's really likable most of the time and he has his moments.

I think it's really forced, and that the actor playing him is pretty weak, especially considering he was on this show (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/).

I also watched the entire run of the UK version, and while I preferred it over the American one, I never felt that it was about life being horrible, just that it was about life being real life. Definitely less zany. But in Britain, a woman is much more likely to turn down romance for stability, whereas in America, a relationship like Jim and Pam's would probably work, since they make each other happy and are friends as well as lovers. I would find it unbelievable if one of them did something horrible to the other, or even fell out of love, and I like the believability of the characters on show. While each character is an exaggeration of an office stereotype, you can see your co-workers in each of them.
