Apple's WWDC keynote starts in about an hour and 15 min. (1:00PM eastern, 10:00AM pacific.) Seems like everyone's expecting them to announce a new iPhone. I'm hoping we'll see a new iPod Touch announced.

Since it's a developer's conference, they're sure to talk about the upcoming Snow Leopard version of OS X. And rumors say there may be some notebook updates, as well.

“So in this keynote, we’d like to tell you about some of the things we’re doing on the Mac, the iPhone and the iPod touch.”

So we will get something on the iPod Touch... whether it's new hardware or OS/functionality additions.

New 15" MacBook Pro. Has SD card slot, better screen, new longer-lasting non-removable battery. Max 8GB RAM, 3.06 dual core, 500GB HDD or 256GB SSD. Starts at $1699. Graphics are 9400M or 9600M GT+9400M (switches between onboard and dedicated, I assume?).

Whew! Looks like I dodged a bullet. He mentions a new 15-inch MBP and I just bought mine two weeks ago. Luckily, I don't need the battery from the 17-inch and I happen to like my express card slot. No need to trade it in for an SD card slot.

Similar changes for 13" MacBook...
which is becoming a Pro.
Has firewire 800?
starting at $1200

Only 17" has expresscard, I guess.

OS X Leopard is the best selling software Apple has ever released. Users and press love it; best OS written for vast majority of consumers. Sharp contrast to Vista.
Think so huh? How about you release it on non-Apple hardware then? I'd certainly like to run OS X on my Gateway.

"So how should we price Snow Leopard? We want all Leopard users to upgrade to this, so we are pricing at $29."

"And you can get a family pack for $49."

Available September.

Hey, for $30, I'll bite.

Only Apple, with it's user base, could "announce" MMS two years into a phone's life in this day and age and not have people laugh them off the stage.

Edit: OH SNAP! and it won't even be ready until the end of summer. Haha.

The new hardware is pretty blah if you ask me. Great for new owners, but not worth scrapping an existing iPhone for.

Voice control? That's great, but it was great 5 years ago, too. The fact that they take time in a presentation to point this out is laughable...the correct way to announce this is to bury it in the patch notes so people don't realize you are just now adding this to your "super phone."

That jump seems justified, but as a 3G user I just don't see the 3GS being worth it (I already have a DSLR). It's too bad too, on the top left corner of my iPhone, something is starting to peel off behind the glass...looks like little air bubbles. I was looking for an excuse to grab new hardware.

I was really hoping the new iPhone hardware and price drop was going to have an effect on the Touch as well. Guess I'm going to have to stick to my plan of buying a refurb unit.

Unless they're announcing it later in the week, there were none. I recently discovered Apple's refurb store and they have the 2nd gen 16GB Touch for $179.

Looks like iPhone 3G buyers get screwed on the update pricing this time around. When the iPhone 3G came out existing iPhone customers got a break I seem to remember.

New and end-of-contract pricing is set at $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB when it goes on sale June 18th Stateside and in 80 more countries in August -- and the current 8GB 3G will remain on sale for $99, effective immediately. You'll have to pay a bit more if you're mid-contract, though -- $299 for the 3G and $399/$499 for the 3G S.

Looks like I'll be waiting till next year's inevitable iPhone upgrade....the iPhone 3T.

Sweet, I'm glad I held off on buying a couple of months ago. I really wanted that 32gb of storage. I agree that the voice control, 3 megapixel camera, and MMS are pretty laughable "new" features.

I think that's about the same amount of "break" that the 3G upgraders got last year.

current iPod Touch lineup: $229 (8GB), $299 (16GB), $399 (32GB)
old iPhone 3G lineup: $199 (8GB), $299 (16GB), N/A (32GB)
new iPhone 3G/3GS lineup: $99 (8GB), $199 (16GB), $299 (32GB)

There is no break if you bought a 3G because you'll still be in the middle of your contract.

Last year if you wanted to upgrade in the middle of your contract you had to pay $399 for the 8gb 3G or $499 for the 16gb 3G. This year you pay $299 for an 8gb 3G, $399 for a 16gb 3GS or $499 for the 16GB 3GS. You pay the same as you would last year. I think it was called the early upgrade discount.

I think if you were an original iPhone owner upgrading to 3G in the middle of a contract you got the low new/extended contract pricing. That was only for iPhone owners though. If you had any other phone you paid the full $399/499 price in the middle of a contract.

How about you stop parroting the same failed notion that almost killed Apple once already. Premium product means premium price, just like any other market.

OS X exists to sell hardware, not the other way around. The support costs and gutting of hardware sales is overwhelmingly not worth what you and so many others are intent on repeating.

I didn't watch WWDC yet, but I imagine its a little more involved than the voice dialing on current phones. Even if its not, I'd rather have Apple focus on more important features, like the App store and add the fluff iteratively like they are doing.

Call me silly, but I don't see the point in upgrading your phone every 6 months ;) My current iPhone works great, OS 3.0 will bring more improvements than the hardware (though the speed would be nice).

And the first iPhone to current was discounted most likely because they wanted to get people onto the 3G Price plans, and Edge -> 3G was a pretty significant change.

I do NOT like the final release of Safari 4. The tabs are moves back down again and it's slower than the beta, it almost feels like somethings is wrong. Something about how the pages are drawn is just... off. And it feels like it re-downloads all images every time I reload a page, instead of using the cache.

I've noticed the caching is much less agressive. Safari no longer eats up all your ram after leaving it open... I appreciate that myself. Haven't gotten the final version yet better do that now.

I agree with the speed so far, but I'm glad the tabs are moved back down. Now I can actually rearrange my tabs and pull one out to a new window, something I find plenty of need for. With the tabs up top, it treated each tab as just the top of the window.

But in the beta you could at least choose if you wanted the tabs on top or not, in the final release you're forced to have them down under.
