I know some of us are great fans of dressing up for Halloween and have done some pretty epic costumes in the past. This year I am thinking about accompanying my friend Sarah Palin as "Joe Six-Pack", but I'm still tossing around some ideas.

What are your plans for this year? I expect many pictures of costumes past, present, and future!

I'm most likely going to be Yuffie from Advent Children (because, as I've said before, I can't fill Tifa's shirt).

Aside from that, if there's any other opportunity, I was thinking about dressing up as Steve Urkel.

I am feverishly trying to locate a Ronald Reagan mask, so I can be....

Ronald Reagan.

I think I might have to order one. I was also thinking of going for a truely obscure president, but it has been hard enough trying to find a Reagan mask.

Nothing to fancy or elaborate, but I'm going to be "The Dork Knight."
Backwards black baseball hat with black pointy "ears" stapled to hat for Batman's mask effect. Black bat-symbol drawn and filled in around my eyes. Batman "Hush" shirt (http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/store/product.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302029057&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442174326&bmUID=1223654529728), Batman Hoodie (http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/store/product.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302028401&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442186383&bmUID=1223654529731), Batman belt buckle on yellow belt, black cargo shorts, black doc martins.

Pics after Halloween I guess.

I'm either going as Han Solo, because I've always wanted to, or as the stockmarket, because most the people at the party I'm going to either work in banks or banking stuff. I figured a big cardboard costume would be good, but I'm still ironing out the details.

Peter Venkman from Ghostbusters. However, this just consists of a t-shirt I got at Target that looks like the jumpsuit, just covered in glow in the dark slime. Add khaki pants, and my original Proton Pack, and boom, Venkman.

Either a bad-ass biker or a Scotsman.

I've got tons of biker stuff but I usually only wear bits and pieces of it at any given time. If I throw it all on at once, I look like something out of the red and white. Maybe chaps with no pants underneath?

In addition to my formal kilt outfit, my wife picked up a ghillie shirt for me so when I put that outfit on I look like I just wandered in off the moors; she LIKES that look! ;)

Or maybe Tippi Hedren from "The Birds".

That's exactly who I'm going as. Except, I went a little more all out, bought a flight suit, patches, same belt used in the movies, etc. Don't have time to build a decent proton pack, so I figure I will go without this year.

I actually considered this when I was looking for costume ideas online, but all the female costumes were like "slutty Ghostbuster" or something. And then I thought about getting the guy version, but I realized I'm too small for men's clothes.

Yeah, pretty much. I generally try to avoid that though. Halloween night's usually pretty freakin' cold.

One year, I thought about dressing up as "slutty slut," where I'd wear like 20 different popular slutty costumes. The point would be that it'd end up not being slutty because I'd be wearing so many layers.

Haha.

I wore some tight plaid pants, a shirt that said something about "I fucked your boyfriend", a couple of wrist bands, and I put eye liner around my eyes - the only time I've ever worn makeup.

It wasn't all that creative, but it was fun.

I don't celebrate Halloween. In fact, I don't celebrate any holidays inspired by corporations to sell their stuff.

The only problem with that whole idea is that Halloween wasn't inspired by corporations. New England Pilgrams used to dress up in scary costumes to scare evil spirits away, just like how the actual holliday is supposed to be celebrated now. It's a borrowed pagan holiday that became the precurser to All Saints Day when Christianity took over. Easter's in the same basket (pardon the pun). It's the pagan spring solstice.

Now, I'm not going to argue that these Holidays have been completely overtaken by commercialism. I personally think almost every holiday falls in that category.

omg you are the only other person I've ever heard refer to a big forehead as a fivehead! That's awesome!

When I was in the Corps, we had a Mexican guy named Venegas. His fivehead was so big you could paint a yellow H on it and helicopters would land there.

I'm building a Pyramid Head head and sword, working on it today. All the supplies cost around $50 at the hardware store. I'm 6'4", if it doesn't look too homemade, it should look completely huge and awesome when it's done.

So, I went to the Halloween store with a friend of mine and we were looking at all the slutty girl costumes, and these four hot teenage chicks are standing over there. They might have been in college, they were at least 18-ish, and the following conversation takes place (in a very serious tone of voice):

"Well, two years ago I was a slutty Little Miss Muffet, and last year I was a slutty Little Red Riding Hood... this year I'm thinking about being a slutty SpongeBob."

The reason we were at the slutty costume section was so my buddy Joe could pick up a slutty Rainbow Bright costume to wear.

This man is 5'10", muscular and bald. Should be pretty funny.

last year he went as a partial-birth abortion mom. Wore a blood covered dress and wig, and had a bloody baby doll dangling between his legs on a cord. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my entire life. It was horrible.

The girlfriend and I were trying to find something cost effective and Internet meme based. We had chosen the Banana from Peanut Butter Jelly Time and Chris Crocker, but when we go to our Halloween store we saw V for Vendetta masks. We decided to go as anonymous and even hand out flyers at the party we're are going to with some of the more famous slogans.

Last year we didn't do anything special. We've gone as 2 Anime characters. She went as Haruko of FLCL fame with bass guitar and all. That one was great. That same year I went as the lead character whatever you want to call him. We've also gone as a Pirate and a Ninja which our friends loved. That night we took a poll to everyone. Ninjas one. This year we didn't feel like spending a lot of cash for the one night we'd get to hangout.

Next year I intend on working on a decent costume of Link and her go as Zelda, but me not being all that crafty, I'll probably skip the whole idea and buy it pre-made.

I don't celebrate Halloween. In fact, I don't celebrate any holidays inspired by corporations to sell their stuff.

Halloween is based on the pagan/Celtic Samhain (SOW-in or SAV-ayn) marked the beginning of the old Celtic new year, and many Celtic Pagans still observe Samhain as the renewal of the Wheel of the Year.

This was the night that the old God died, returning to the Land of the Dead to await rebirth at Yule, and a time when the Crone Goddess would go into mourning for her lost son/consort, leaving her people in temporary darkness.

As in days long past, Celtic Pagans believe that the veil between the world of the living and that of the dead is at its thinnest on this night, and that the spirits of our departed loved ones walk the earth, visit family and friends, and join in the ritual celebrations. This makes Samhain a prime night for any type of spirit contact rituals.

The feeding of the dead is a widespread practice, even in modern Celtic lands. In Brittany and Ireland food is always left out for these spirit travelers, and candles are placed in windows to guide them along their way, and these were the origins of the modern Halloween customs of the jack o'lantern and trick-or-treat.

I'm building a Pyramid Head head and sword, working on it today. All the supplies cost around $50 at the hardware store. I'm 6'4", if it doesn't look too homemade, it should look completely huge and awesome when it's done.

Not quite on topic, but:

Yeah, pretty much. I generally try to avoid that though. Halloween night's usually pretty freakin' cold.

One year, I thought about dressing up as "slutty slut," where I'd wear like 20 different popular slutty costumes. The point would be that it'd end up not being slutty because I'd be wearing so many layers.

I had to say that this sounds like an awesome idea.

I can never decide what to dress up as, so always I end up not doing anything. Kind of irritating.

Had a party to go to in costume. Couldn't think of anything. Got a cheap hockey mask (seriously, they're always selling those at Halloween stores, but I never see anyone wear them.) and a plastic machete. I covered the blade in duct tape so it'd be shinier, and went as Jason Voorhees. Easy, recognizable, and my favorite horror dude ever.

But I realized that I always see some crap kid's costume that's a hockey mask and a jersey and you can dress your kid up as "Hockey Jason" and that pisses me off for some reason. As if anyone under 10 even knows who Jason is.

To be fair, his coat is not brown and the pants are not tight. But he does resemble Mal, now that you mention it.

My costume is easy this year: our band is playing an outdoor show tonight, and we'll all be in black dress suits with black shirts, wearing red devil horns. Our singer is going to be the angel in white with wings and a halo. A copout, but actually very effective if you saw us. Last year's "Maude and the Big Lebowskis" was better, though.

Which one? Shot President, shot Senator or the drowned plane crash victim.

If I didn't have a beard, I guess I could go as Ted and my wife could wear a ladies 70's pants suit and have some seaweed in her hair.

Of course some didnt, those sticklers for accuracy! Because I am pretty sure he used a shotty.

If I had the money and more time I would have put together a real nice Rorschach or The Question outfit...ppfft next year eeeveryone is going to be Rorschach, and if I go as The Question, everyone will think I am just in an incomplete Rorschach costume, even though Rorschach is based on The Question.

My girl and I are staying home to hand out the candy this year, but if we were going to go out to a costume party, we could easily just put on some makeup and regular clothes and go as Cole and Dr. Railly from 12 Monkeys. Seriously, we're dead ringers for this pic:

But I doubt anyone would get it without us putting the logo or something monkey-like on us, which would only cheapen the costume.

Fully exploded Kennedy. Kind of a last minute thing (I couldn't throw the Cobra Kai skeleton costume together). Bullet hole in the throat, red hair coloring on the back of my head, blood all over the suit.

Funny story, one chick walks up to me and is like, "So are you supposed to be a business man who killed himself because of the economic crisis??"

I'm like, "Try the 35th president of the United States."

"Lyndon Johnson??"

"Did Lyndon Johnson have his head blown apart?"

"Oh.......OOOOOOOOOOhhhhhhh......that's fucked up."

So that was possibly the best Halloween I've had. My friend had a huge costume party at his farm, a local metal band played from the hayloft while dry ice poured over the edge, horror movies were projected on the side of the barn and there was a humongous bonfire.

My Pyramid Head costume was the crowd favorite, altho there were a couple other really good ones.
